They portray it as “overreacting” when Trump2.0 ticks all the boxes that define fascism. It’s a fact. But they don’t like those. They think it’s meant as an insult, not a statement.
To be fair to them, I don’t generally call people I like “nazis”, so it is a bit of an insult from my perspective. But only so far as stating facts can be insulting.

I’m always watching. I have lots of Internet to hate and no one is going to hate it for me. Don’t pay much, but it’s honest work.
Had a long conversation the other day with someone who doesn’t know what ‘fascism’ means, and insisted I’m the fascist for calling out an actual fascist.
The issue isn’t the platform, it’s that many people are ignorant (sometimes by design, and sometimes by their own choice).
As Lemmy becomes more popular, we’ll see more of this.
I try to be gentle at first, because some people didn’t choose to be ignorant and can be reformed, but trolls are also learning we exist.
If I had a nickel for every time I was called a nazi on Lemmy without doing or saying nazi shit, I would have two nickels. It’s not a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
First was when I said gen AI taking a long ass path to do math when it itself is a calculator is weird.
Second was when some dude who mistagged me as a simp for the Chinese government got butt hurt when I mentioned genocide in Gaza without also mentioning genocide elsewhere unprompted on a thread about the genocide in Gaza.
Triple Trouble by Beastie Boys started playing in my head as I was reading this and it was better than then meme.
Haven’t heard To the 5 Boroughs in a long while. I should fix that.
