Don’t even need to have much knowledge or intelligence; just empathy will usually get you out of the cult. Lacking both is a particularly dangerous combo; though so is intelligence and a lack of empathy. That’s how you get the psychopathic grifters at the top I guess.
A lot of con voters are just kinda dumb. Most people of any population never do any kind of self reflection or critical thinking, so for these people the fact that their parents would never support a dem is pretty much the entire basis for how they vote. A lot of them are plenty empathetic in their daily lives but they just never think about what their vote means.

Apple pie comes from England, but it evolved from foods made by the Dutch, but they took/evolved it from the Ottomans who took apples from Kazakhstan.
But modern Apple pie is an English invention, it just has a lot of influences from other sources (which is the same for pretty much every food).
It most definitely is not an English invention. Basically all European cuisines has some form of apple pie. Pies, both sweet and savoury, was the main method of cooking food in the middle ages.
