From cold hard rationale, Hayek and Friedman makes sense, but they do ignore reality that circumstances always change. Deregulation made sense at the time of 1970s oil crisis as the economy and welfare state stagnated, but we’re now in the age of economic prosperity again, but the wealth is hoarded by the few and act as though austerity still matters.

Not entirely sure about why Friedman’s claim that India was costing the British empire more to maintain, but it has also been repeated in many circles. I was watching a documentary on the nature of evil. There is an incarcerated serial killer who acknowledges what he did is evil and wrong, but he doesn’t feel empathy. CT scan of his brain showed that the part of the brain associated with empathy is not really active. Having said that, I heard that the longer someone is in power, the more that their brain physiologically changes.

Of course it is more complicated and nurture still plays a role on the person’s development, but I think sometimes nature is stronger.

I laughed when Milton Friedman thinks free market could prevent climate change through climate dividends and carbon tax. Good luck, boyo, your “greed is good” bullshit is what led us to here.

Even some of the most celebrated “enlightened” monarchs and dictators are kinda corrupt. Napoleon was a liberal, republican but set up his own dynasty. He was good to the French and those oppressed by the old blood monarchs, and allowed religious tolerance, but he was pretty harsh towards the Germans and made examples on those who questioned the embargo on the British, which hurts continental Europe more than the British.

The downside to my situation is that I have been insensitive before, because I projected my own worldview on to others (don’t we all?) It didn’t occur to me that many, if not most, people are constantly at odds with their own mind. It’s one of my baggages as to why I am still single lol.

People dismiss it often, but I do think all of us are born predisposed to view the world a certain way and how we respond. As I said to another person, I have anendophasia, which means I have little to no internal monologue. I don’t really get stressed out because I don’t really get intrusive thoughts. I could sleep fairly easily. With any criticisms I get, I just forget and it doesn’t linger in my mind, or I just learn and move on.

The downside of having anendophasia, though, is that I have been insensitive before, because I wrongly assumed that people don’t have constant intrusive thoughts. It was irrational for me as to why have these thoughts without bearing in reality. Only recently I realise many, if not most, people have constant internal monologue that is pain in the butt. Nothing for me to do but understand. It’s the state of mind all along.

I’m not wealthy, but as someone with anendophasia (I have little to no internal monologue), I rarely get stressed out because I don’t really get intrusive thoughts. I have no qualms with not conforming to societal expectations. Two of my friends thought I am lonely being single or lonely in general for having moved out of town. But I mean, I would not be doing what I am doing now if I am not happy.

My cousin immigrated to the US and wasn’t aware of the ICE raids. Although to be fair, he was a sailor and so he may have had limited access to news while travelling. But on the one hand, with how almost instantaneous access to information these days even if one is travelling a lot, as you said, my cousin may have narrow experience in terms of what information he choose to consume. As in, he maybe only caring about news from our home country.
