  • Arming oneself is a feel-good consumer product in an increasingly uncertain political environment in the US.

Effective? No, as you have already pointed out, the State is always armed better than you.

Counter-productive? Yes, by directly funding the all right-wing arms industry, their army of government lobbyists, and putting more guns on the streets that increases the already-high risk of random gun violence.

Having a firearm in your home increases the risk of it being used against your family.

Feel good? Yes. A consumerist instant gratification to the need for security. Consumers are what Americans are trained to be.

The sad part is, that allowing Elon to export “Full Self Driving” or whatever other technology to China won’t even help Tesla that much, and will even harm the company in the long term:

The Chinese will just copy/steal the technology, because all foreign investment is through joint ventures with local corporations, and give it to their domestic manufacturers, like they did and continue to do with all other offshored production that winds up in their hands.

As a recent spate of articles about GM, Honda and Nissan, tells us, the Chinese domestic manufacturers now own 60% market share.

Tesla’s market share in China has dropped in nearly half over the last 3 months from 9/24 - 12/24, from 6.43% to 3.39%, and that was already down from 9% in 2023.

  • …abolishing the DOE will reduce the tax burden on citizens living in blue states…

There’s no such thing as a “federal education funding tax” applied to each state to collectively fund education across the whole country.

The IRS will collect the same federal tax that it always has, but Republicans will funnel the former federal public education money to their pet projects: “crisis pregnancy centers,” the military, more tax cuts for billionaires, vouchers for discriminatory private schools, etc.

Therefore the Blue states will get even less federal funding in return for the federal taxes that their economies generate, but by no means will their federal tax burden go down.
