Kamala is so out of touch it’s outrageous. If you take things at face value and Kamala says “I wouldn’t do anything different from Biden” and you have Trump saying “Biden destroyed the USA” it seems to reason that voting for Kamala means you want more fails.

Of course, things are usually more nuanced than this, but do you think the average American voter is extremely savvy? If anything, the future of the country is determined by quips and sound bites.

Here’s a clue: if you need to hire “influence experts” to figure out how to “outreach” to younger voters, you’re out of touch. For several categories of voter, it seems that they are valued for what they pick in the voting booth instead of any kind of actual consideration.

Trump’s rhetoric and puffery makes some people believe he has their back. Kamala’s pitch seems to boil down to “I’m not that other guy”, which historically doesn’t get you very far.

It was frustrating to watch the election more or less be handed to Donald Trump, because the only segment of society the Democrats seemed to appeal to was the large corporations that hand over large amounts of donation money. The plight of the average citizen was nowhere near the top list of concerns.

Trump’s #1 skill is telling people in the room what they want to hear. He’s just pretty bad about following up. His followers tend not to hold him to the fire. For example, if he promises thing X and doesn’t do it, later he was “trolling” or “that was a joke to rile up the Democrats”. Of course, when he does get a win they trumpet that from the rooftops.

He’s probably the first one with the combination of charisma and lack of ethics that makes him exploit his base.

It continually amazes me that he’s been so successful at capturing low-income voters. When you look at Trump he was born with a silver spoon. The man lives in a literal gilded house! Yet, he manages to stay “relatable” to his base. If you’re really wildly rich, I can see why you’d want to vote for Trump because he’s done a lot of great things for the extremely wealthy. However, for the 99% of us that are not wealthy, I think he’s made times pretty hard.

I wish I could say people are learning as we go along, but it seems like the voters are getting spanked and coming back asking for more.

I’m confused – if he knew Trump was going to be so mad, why didn’t he just release better numbers? That’s how it used to work in the USSR and plenty of people were able to keep their government jobs.

Then I learned that Pink Slime didn’t go away, they just changed the laws so they could add up to a certain percentage of pink slime to ground beef without identifying it. It’s like how people were really against Obamacare but loved the Affordable Care Act. All you need is a bit of a label change and the public falls in line. The public has an attention span of about 2 weeks and rarely ever follows up, so they are really easy to fool.

To break the two-party system we have in the USA, you’d need to have overwhelming numbers, because both the Democrats and GOP have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo regarding the balance of power.

Or, if you want another example of “free”, look at the distinction between the GPL and the BSD license as it applies to Sony and the Playstation. One of the reason Sony chose BSD for the basis of its gaming system is because the BSD license allows for commercial usage. In that sense it is MORE free than the GPL, which would not allow the type of usage Sony did with the Playstation without conferring more responsibility to Sony, for instance, releasing their source. Under BSD they have no obligation to do so, hence it is more free in that respect.

My whole point is a lot of people say “I want my software to be freely licensed” but they do not realize that they may be unintentionally opening the door to usages of the software that they do not want to see.

One should not pick a license that allows for unfettered usage of the software if you have certain ways you don’t want to see it used.

As a final parting example, look at Prusa and their printers. They release the firmware and designs as open source. They they later get angry when companies clone their designs. This is permissible under the license. This is making Prusa want to lock down their future designs to avoid that usage.

Anyone considering licensing of their own software should think very carefully about what usages they support or object to and license the software accordingly. If you release your software as BSD licensed and some company comes along and makes a billion dollars with it, you aren’t owned a cent under that agreement. If this makes you angry, don’t pick BSD.

Freedom comes with uncomfortable ramifications. This is inescapable. Freedom includes doing things that a given individual isn’t comfortable with. If you’re not happy with this trade-off, don’t use a license that allows “any” usage.
