  • If you want to host your own email server, then do that. As someone earlier in the thread said, email was the first federated messaging system. That was the entire point of SMTP. Anyone could host one and trust it would work.

I don’t know if it’s what you’re looking for, as it’s not ActivityPub based, but Postmoogle is a Matrix bridge email server, where you can send emails to it and they’ll be converted to Matrix messages. There might be a similar thing for ActivityPub?

  • Tbf, I am not a grey beard chief engineer, and I strongly prefer VHDL for design. For verification I actually really like SystemVerilog.

VHDL is strongly types, which prevents a lot of issues with types that I’ve hit with [System]Verilog.

Also, having learned VHDL first, I think it is easier to go from VHDL to Verilog, as opposed to vice versa. And this is mainly because VHDL is stricter.

  • Yeah, this was my thought (the fact that it’s just a relay), and I figured I could connect it’s output to the load to the switch pin on a relay instead. I am gonna look into this possibility, since it would allow for some sort of local control if things go down. My thought is I could set the temp on the physical therm to way below the target temp (in the heating months, above the target temp in the cooling). This way it kinda also acts as a fail safe. And if HA is down and we need to override it, we can. Might need to put more thought into this though.

Also, here is a Z-Wave relay I use for another project and it works well, just FYI Zooz ZEN51
