  • How about house them in a way that take away their voting rights and use them as cheap labor? Member how prisoners were used to fight the Palisades fires in January?

Don’t forget the expensive housing is provided by a for-profit prison system. It’s expensive for taxpayers, but someone else is getting rich.

  • I don’t think it’s good, I think it’s unavoidable. For decades the right has been a party of, for lack of a better term, evil. However, they’d hidden it under a cloak of libertarianism/freedom and religiosity. This gave them plausible deniability. Sure, some voters were responding to dog whistles or were otherwise drawn in by the undercurrent of evil, but it was forgivable to vote conservative because the cloak gave them plausible deniability.

Trump threw away the cloak. He’ll bring out a fragment of it and wave it around when someone points out hypocrisy, but it’s so transparently performative that the plausible deniability is gone. Those in power on the right are openly greedy, hateful, petty, dishonest, racist, authoritarian, fascist, etc. Anyone who still supports them has to either be so ignorant and frustrating to deal with that they aren’t worth your time or so willfully ignorant that they are difficult to forgive.

I still think they can figure it out, but the leopard will likely need to eat their face and the faces of everyone they love and go on a villainous “This was my plan all along mwahahahah” speech before that happens. Or Trump will just say “AI, Fake News” and they’ll find more loved ones’ faces to feed them.

  • I’ve had a pretty good experience with it aside from this recent problem with my phone - Pixel 8 Pro. It’s a big deal right now - I have a number of self hosted services I use on my phone accessed through a shared subnet via tailscale. When I left it enabled, multiple times a day I’d lose connectivity entirely. It would get fixed if I just quickly disable-enable it… at least until it randomly happens again in an hour or two. I started using spit tunneling, which I think fixed the connectivity issue for internet-dependent apps but nothing I tried fixed calls and texts.

Unfortunately, my mother has been having a number of health issues so there is no fucking way I’m going to risk missing calls and texts…so I just deal with being disconnected from my servers for now. I really wish there was a solution or something I could do to figure out what’s going wrong. I can’t keep trying random things and risk it. Calls from my mother are virtually the only calls I get, other than spam.

  • I’ve had to stop using it on my Pixel. In the last few months I have more and more suddenly lost all connectivity outside of my tailscale network. I tried excluding apps but I still will randomly fail to receive SMS or calls, suddenly getting them delivered in a rush when I disconnect from tailscale.

If anyone has any tools to recommend troubleshooting the phones connection let me know. I have no idea how to learn more about the problem beyond the obvious “If tailscale isn’t on, it doesn’t happen.”

  • It is so much easier and so much more profitable to be the minority party of opposition to evil. You don’t need exciting new ideas, just exciting “back to normal” ideas. …and even “normal” can be made progressively shittier every cycle.

The rich and powerful can handpick their favorite candidates, negotiate a few table scraps in the direction of normal that they’re willing to accept, and call it a win. The campaign industrial complex gets to make a shit load of money.

Most importantly, their ultimate campaign slogan is “Vote for me, or else evil wins.” Easy money all around.

Then when nothing good happens during a Democrats’s turn, they can blame Democrats and then the Republicans they handpick get to ratchet things back in the rich’s direction again.

  • The ACA passed with zero Republican votes. The reason the ACA is garbage is not because of Republicans.

So incredibly disingenuous. Are you claiming that Democrats never once modified that bill in an attempt to negotiate with a Republican for their vote? They never conceded a single thing in an effort to gain Republican support? Republicans never made any public claims about the bill that made Democrats in conservative districts or states have to push back against provisions in the original bill?

…and that is all ignoring the fact that if a few Republicans had supported the bill as a single payer solution, conservative Democrats would still have ruined it?

Now, I am honestly of the opinion that Congress is half theater and that many times far more Democrats, if necessary, would work against progressive ideas if they didn’t have blue dogs to conveniently do it for them. To take the heat for stabbing their constituents in the back and refusing to give them what they want because they are bought and paid for, or simply brainwashed by the billionaire class and out of touch, thinking they know better than progressive peasants. I just despise bullshit arguments that Republicans don’t also contribute heavily to the effort of fucking up progressive policies.

  • Here’s my problem. What are Democrats looking to get from this? All I’ve heard is ACA subsidies. Extending the subsidies is a bandaid that I guarantee Republicans would absolutely love to be “forced” to implement. If they just drop 15 million poor folks (many of whom likely voted Republican) from Medicaid, and double the price of ACA healthcare for another 15 million, those poor constituents might take notice while Republicans continue to skullfuck the American healthcare system.

Alright, so let’s say they win some concessions. This administration has been given a green light by the current sham of a Supreme Court to undermine and ignore Congress’s ability to control the budget via “pocket rescission”. The administration can just… not spend the money as it was appropriated by Congress. A budget passing Congress for X spending on Y doesn’t mean that X will be spent on Y if the Trump administration doesn’t want to.

Why make a deal if the other side has been blessed with the ability to legally ignore it?

  • I think what needs to be very clear is Trump’s clear sexual objectification of women throughout his entire life. When he judges women, it’s about how sexually appealing he finds them. If asked about a woman, he instinctively comments on their appearance whether or not it is at all relevant to the question. The only other thing that’s as important to him is whether or not they say nice things about him and are loyal to him.

These comments really don’t change that much when he talks about underage girls. He’d walk in on underage girls dressing during his beauty pageants. He doesn’t even feel shame speaking the same way about his daughter, or having others speak the same way about her. I don’t see how someone incapable of seeing underage girls through any lense other than how beautiful and desirable they are could be anything but a pedophile.
