  • I host my main server on my own hardware, and a VPN on Hetzner because my shitty ISP doesn’t let me port forward. For the past year, bots were hitting my Forgejo instance hard. I forgot to disable registration and they generated hundreds of accounts with hundreds of repos with sketchy links, generating terrabytes of traffic from my VPS, costing me money in traffic. I disabled registration and deleted the spam, and bots still kept hitting my server for several months, which would cause memory leaks over time and crash it and consume CPU, and still costed me money with terrabytes of traffic per month. A few weeks ago, I put Anubis on the VPS. Now, zero bots hit my Forgejo instance and I don’t pay for their traffic anymore. Problem solved.

  • How well does this work?

I daily drive it on a MacBook M1 Air, and it works decently for what I do with it with very rare compatibility issues, which is mostly programming, messaging, and web usage. Performance is much better than macOS, but battery life is worse.

Still missing some basic hardware features such as USB-HDMI (which I don’t need since I use Niri) and for some reason playing audio uses a lot of CPU, so not sure if I didn’t set something up correctly or if it is an Asahi Linux problem.

I think it also supports x86_64 emulation (demonstrated with Steam), but I’ve never tried it. Or maybe they were just demonstrating the GPU driver implementations.

While AI offers transformative potential, significant criticisms highlight its drawbacks. Current systems often perpetuate biases embedded in training data, leading to discriminatory outcomes in hiring, law enforcement, and lending. The environmental cost of training large models—like massive energy consumption and carbon emissions—raises sustainability concerns. Automation driven by AI threatens job displacement, exacerbating economic inequality, while opaque “black-box” algorithms undermine accountability in critical domains like healthcare or criminal justice. Privacy erosion, through pervasive surveillance and data exploitation, further fuels distrust. Though AI’s capabilities are impressive, its unchecked deployment risks deepening societal inequities and prioritizing efficiency over ethical considerations.

  • I used to get a lot of news off Instagram, but lately I’ve noticed that a lot of radical stuff like protests have basically disappeared off my feed, and other people I’ve talked to have said that this is happening with Twitter as well. Now it’s mostly just fear-mongering headlines with no reporting on defensive actions, despite there being tons of protests all over the place in the past few days. The 50501 protests were a lot bigger than I thought they’d be, and the fact that there’s barely any reporting on them is extremely concerning and I think is intentional. Meanwhile I’ve seen an increasing amount of radical stuff pop up on RedNote, like protests and pro-Luigi stuff, while at the same time somehow maintaining a calmer and more unifying vibe (also no ads), so it definitely seems like a better platform (compared to other options that are algorithm-driven) and I’ve been browsing it more instead of Instagram lately. Also, I’m trying to look for ways to connect with more people IRL, which I think is one of the most important things people can do right now to fight the isolating and divisive design of capitalism.

  • Trump doing tons of shit was the first thing I saw. The “Migrants weep in Mexico as Trump admin cancels all appointments for Biden’s CBP One app immediately after swearing in” one in particular though, they’re not even pretending to not be horrible people anymore.

Gab is largely similar right now but in Twitter format instead, and people posting super Christiany stuff also. Apparently their founder was one of the people resharing the Elon salute, while r/Conservative likes to pretend they aren’t Nazis while still being Nazis
