Also: run your HA on something that makes more sense than Pi. For a little more you can run a much more powerful N100/150 based mini PC with very similar power draw.
Did you mean esp8266 instead of 16?


Last I’ve checked the UniFi network integration communicates with the devices locally with a local account.


I do exact that and rarely move stuff. When I do I rename it. Most of the stuff I have is Zigbee, so I rename it in Zigbee2MQTT, select the option to rename it in HA too.


See if you can reuse the hardware you have. Some „proprietary” lightbulbs are actually Zigbee and all you need is a Zigbee coordinator (an adapter to communicate with them, which works regardless of vendor). See zigbee2mqtt


Have you considered an N100/N150 based mini PC? Not much higher power draw, much better performance, expandability - RAM (up to 32GB), NVMe SSDs, m.2 slots for other devices. You can easily set up a VM/container environment to run more than HA if you need/want to.


My fridge has a small door in its door so I can exchange less air with its outside if I only need to pull out something that’s on one of door’s shelves. The downside is that unlike the main door (which does auto close) it needs me to push it firmly to close.

I have them (Zigbee smart plugs) all over the house. Mostly for power measurements, but I’m using few to control devices. I also have a few thingies I’ve put behind regular outlets.


I’m also using Heatmiser (Neo) with HA. It’s fine, and it’s controlled locally.

I could probably run something on my gaming PC with 3090, but that would be a big cost. Instead I’ve just put my old 2070 in an existing server and using it for more lightweight stuff (TTS, obico, frigate, ollama with some small model).


So basically for people who have graphic cards with 24GB VRAM (or more). While I do, it’s probably something most people don’t ;)


Then you need to fix your TTS not the system that interprets transcribed words.


27b - how much VRAM does it use?


I use 2 of them with Zigbee2MQTT using this coordinator. It takes a while to interview (get basic information) them, but they work. My suggestion is to switch to Z2M (more control over devices/Zigbee network), and if the issues persist RMA the devices. I’ve done it a few times - Ikea simply sent me replacements, that why makes them better than off-brand Zigbee devices from China.


There are also performance implications (a Zigbee coordinator can easily handle 100 devices, while many routers would struggle with that amount of clients), power saving (especially for battery powered sensors) - some Zigbee sensors can last years on a single coin cell battery.
I don’t think it has the power draw of an N100/N150-based machine (10-15W), but it’s not a huge power hungry server either.
