The way things work in the US, the politicians are always campaigning. I’m sure there are those who can explain why much better than I can, but I think it boils down to the influence of money in our system and the need to constantly fundraise to win.

Here’s what I’ve often wondered: why, when the Constitution clearly indicates that bearing of arms is in the context of a" well-regulated militia", is it not permissible, under the Constitution, to regulate firearms? Do the second amendment types have any kind of argument about this? It just seems to me that within the context of the amendment itself, it’s clearly implied that regulation will be necessary and will exist. Is there something that I’m missing?

God, I can hear these guys having this conversation in that lilting Kiwi accent. This is exactly the sort of absurdity they used to lampoon.

I heard somewhere that the overhead costs for standard Medicare is around 4-5%. Medicare Advantage comes in around 15%, because of the need to turn a profit. It’s very inefficient. The public option was always the best way to go, but we’re stuck with this stupid narrative that private options will be more efficient. Like trickle-down economics, it’s bullshit, and it needs to be exposed at every opportunity so that maybe folks will finally realize they’ve been hoodwinked.

Fantasy, I know, but I can still hope for truth and rational thinking to win the day.

I’ve done a few of these, but I once did a #5/#10 combo. I made a character years ago whose only purpose was to blow people’s heads off with a .44 Magnum. He had virtually no other relevant skills. It was a GURPS/Car Wars mash-up, the former for roleplay and the latter for vehicular combat since we were in the Car Wars universe. I wasn’t much use for anything until the shooting started.
