The MSPB dismissals got me since the MAGA folks seem so obsessed with anything that they deem to be not based on merit. Obviously they lie, and this is great evidence of that.

Totally misunderstood the headline until I read the article. I work for the federal government, and most folks in my small town have the attitude that “they aren’t coming after jobs here, just people in DC or higher levels.” It is incredibly hard to change these perceptions, even when things DO affect folks at the local level. People can make excuses for almost anything 😑

It really is a dog and pony show. It looks good to certain people, but it doesn’t pencil out, especially long term as you mention.

The last few paragraphs describe exactly why the Democratic party is in shambles. Essentially, they just expect people to keep coming back. Kamala Harris had that saying she said about we’re not going back, and the Democratic party shouldn’t. Not that she is with the future, tho. Move ON! Get with the program.

I am in no position to say what Merz will be for Germany, but talk of teamwork amongst Europe is good.

No real surprise. Unfortunately for the US, most large scale agriculture is tied (perhaps indirectly) to the meat industry, even crops. We grow a lot of stuff just to feed livestock.

I feel just like those new rangers, except I’m older and am from a different agency, and I still am stressed out by this. I hate it. 10-15 years ago I would not have expected this, but whatever, as I try to support my elderly parents and pay my bills. Hopefully the Senate passes this; I expect them to.

Your point? It is not a corporation, which is what Ma Bell was. Fans of “deregulation” seem to miss this key aspect.

The Bell system is an inappropriate comparison. It was a monopoly; it was not what @toiletobserver@lemmy.world is talking about. Corporate monopolies were bad then, and are bad now, which is likely a factor in why New York is doing this.

This makes a recent comparison even worse. Or more real? Terrible either way.

Unfortunately that is what will set them (and the Mormons) apart with these things. The money they both have helps I am sure.

I don’t understand any of the people on that supposed short list, but maybe I shouldn’t try to make sense of it because nothing makes sense if people like Musk are in the running. What’s the big picture here?
