Once I weighed rhe cloud services Id lose vs the amount of stuff that breaks in upgrades (which I often don’t realize until months later), I realized that I was losing a lot more from upgrading than not upgrading.

I stopped upgrading about 6 months ago and am very happy with the decision. I had to say goodbye to some cloud services but it’s saved me a ton of time and hassle.

I was running Apple WiFi routers for a good 20 years. Maybe 1/4 died in that time, but many ran 20+ years before I abandoned them for newer standards. Some are still going as whole house audio streamers.

Expectations don’t always match reality.

I think I’m about 9 months back or more. Sick of breaking changes and I know there are a lot coming up. Seeing how long I can hold out ;-).

It’s possible from the command line. And how I will do this when I’m eventually forced to.

I run Zwave and love it. Advantages:

• better range and less interference in 900mhz band with meshing
• better battery life. WiFi uses up to an order of magnitude more power. Battery in Zwave devices lasts for years, with new ones being even better in this regard
• more secure as they cannot be hacked by hacking your internet or getting on your WiFi.
• more feature rich. Zwave devices tend to be geared towards more pro use and tend to have just about every feature you can imagine
• The Zwave standards body is quite strict in ensuring devices adhere to the standard so it’s much harder to get “stinker” devices that don’t. This is a bigger problem with zigbee for example.
• fully local. You can be 100% sure they aren’t sending your data off somewhere
• Generally high quality. I’ve had quite good luck with pretty much all the Zwave devices I’ve bought. They last a long time and are reliable if your mesh is working properly (enough powered repeater nodes).

Wait till you see Trump in action. Biden will look like the most progressive president ever.

You get what you pay for. Pretty much every Zwave device I’ve tried has worked as advertised and even had a surprising amount of extra useful features I had never considered.

If they had run Sanders back when the people demanded it, none of this crap would have gone down. Trump would just be an orange shit stan on the bottom of Bernie’s shoe. The DNC leadership deserves all the blame here.

Total upheaval is what they’ll get then.

Yep me exactly too. Though I vote in a solidly blue state, it won’t change much but the dems have gotten better and all 3rd parties have gotten worse in recent years, so I have no problem voting dem this time just to take zero risks.
