i think it’s certainly possible that it could start down that path, and it’ll become blatantly obvious that trickle down economics, “socialism is evil”, anti-intellectual crap that the red states bow at the alter of is a huge reason for their suffering and they’ll want to join those coalitions, but those coalitions will have years if not decades of policy on their side to make sure they aren’t overrun with the same ideas

could the process then just start over again? perhaps… it could just be a property of the system

but also… they’re arguing for small government. maybe y’all should start pushing in the same direction: make the federal government smaller, keep your blue state tax money, stop giving them as much… it’s what they want after all

and then use that money to form blue state coalitions: form a new, voluntary CDC, FDA, etc between aligned states that are far more robust than what you’ve been able to achieve with republican bad faith tampering

overall there were some reports written about it after the fact: lessons learned etc, but i think people don’t really blame the conservatives for the abuse… it was a programme that was quickly conceived of, and implemented very fast and it achieved a very important purpose. was it wasteful? sure… was it or something like it necessary? also very much yes

perhaps worth pointing out too… focusing on the minimal abuse as a reason the whole program should be cut is very american. i think the rest of the world the attitude is much more that a thing is necessary and abuse is a cost of doing business (like shoplifting: just because there’s some shoplifting doesn’t mean you close the whole store)… it’s very much nobody “undeserving” should get rewarded before people need help

you will never be upset with the hue ecosystem… they aren’t cheap, but they’re reliable as hell and have a lot more than just the lights if you ever want to go all in (eg the hue sync - for tv backlighting, light strips, most kinds of lighting fixture you can think of, etc)

in this case, states that are against gerrymandering should form a pact to nullify its effects: if another state gerrymanders, between them they must gerrymander opposite to at least the same magnitude. if enough states get on board, gerrymandering is done

it’s possible to measure gerrymandering, and states know that it’s in their best interest to stop another state from doing it. the only thing that’s needed is inter-state cooperation

yknow the point of single payer is that it becomes cheaper for everyone because you all of a sudden have bargaining power… right?

you could afford healthcare if you contributed to a big pool that paid for everyone… and more importantly, set the prices of care however they damn well please

single payer is like a union, but far more powerful because it’s a monopoly (and a monopoly that’s actually good because it’s for the benefit of all)
