Basic online safety to you and me can be a bit high-level for many, disproportionately so for those who are going to remain on Windows 10. I don’t like Windows, either 10 or 11, but most of the hardware losing support with 10’s EOL can run a secure and modern operating system just fine, and Windows 11 could have been that if not for the overhead of Microsoft’s telemetry and other bloat. Home users lacking computer proficiency are being thrown under the bus so that Microsoft can generate metric tons of ewaste as they force their enterprise customers to purchase new hardware. I happened across a shit ton of kasa smart plugs, and don’t need the range/mesh that ZigBee provides, so ive just been using them. Been working well, they can be configured locally and can be blocked from internet access by my router

And like your example perfectly shows, that line of argument is only ever meaningfully deployed to specifically benefit the state and oligarchs. It’s never used to encourage awareness of economic inequalities that push people toward cycles of incarceration.

Do you have… any supporting evidence? Or is this just based off the warm fuzzy feeling you got from doing the pledge of allegiance in school?

I find dockerization tends to make things waaaay easier to bring up/take down with simple yet consistent configuration schemes. I distribute all my self hosted stuff across a small cluster of machines- if I want to move a service from one to another it’s as easy as moving the config folder and the docker-compose. Don’t need to have startup scripts, or remembering installation steps after a fresh install, or worry about python/package versions. Plus it helps keep track of what services are set up, soni don’t have to worry about leaving anything unused but still installed and running. And updating is as easy as pulling the images and recreating the containers.
