I consistently tip my hat to the Brits for their excellent disses, slang, and swear words.

politics @lemmy.world•Republican Vote Against E.V. Mandate Felt Like an Attack on California, Democrats Say
2·1 year agoLast I checked, CA was fourth, BUT we do participate in our federal govt and both give and receive from that arrangement, so hard to say that if CA was completely independent of that what the numbers would actually show.
How’s the scoreboard on the number of times Joe and Donnie have been caught at public events completely checked out and in dreamland?

15·1 year agoThat’s the worst take ever.
“2 generations from now, it’s remotely possible that through reducing wokeness, kicking out brown people, shifting money from the poor and middle class up to the wealthy, and alienating all of our nation’s allies, that murica will be the best it’s ever been. Too bad all it costs us is literally our entire planet’s environment, basic human rights, and our very souls.”
Don’t think I’d be going out for a beer with your FIL

1·1 year agoAnything would be tiresome if you had to eat it every day, but lentils can be pretty delicious. Unlimited options if you like Indian food too.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump humiliates Musk in speech after White House exit
12·1 year agoI think it’s this:
“I just hired the best person to do something”
Scenario A: this person did a bigly good job at it. Something was my idea and I get all the credit.
Scenario B: this person did a massively horrible job at the something. Something failed because of this person and I’m awesome so I’m asking them to leave.
In both cases, the something usually turns out to be a massively stupid idea to begin with, but Trump gets to claim a win either way. This is how one fails upwardly their entire life.

161·1 year agoDon’t lose hope because of the rantings of a lunatic. There are lots of us here that support you for who you are (provided you’re not an asshole or bigot) and don’t forget to be who you’re supposed to be. I’ve had some very unpleasant interactions with people that I had to realize just weren’t worth me thinking about. No need to let those assholes live rent free in your head.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•I have to preface this by saying Joe Rogan made himself by playing centrist.
7·1 year agoRecently got a new car that has a Sirius trial subscription. After everything I’ve heard about it, actually using it is shockingly disappointing. There is so little content on it, and what’s there isn’t any good. I guess maybe their target customer is someone who wants Fox News and right wing pod casts in their car. I won’t be signing up, especially with what a pain I’ve heard it is to cancel once they have your payment info.
MTG would fit in very well in that pic

4·1 year agoHave seen a few of these and they are great (Michael Snyder for California and the PNW), but unfortunately they all get their data from the same place: NWS. They are the ones launching the balloons, collecting that data daily, and running weather models for everyone else to then interpret. Slashing the NWS is simply one of the most idiotic things to happen yet during this whole circus. Sorry - rant over (I fly paragliders so weather forecasts are important to my own self interests).

2·1 year agoUSian here: make it really expensive for us, Europe. We deserve it and it’s the only way we’ll learn.

You know what, let’s make this easier. Medicaid for you if you’re an able-bodied, working, white dude (or Russian).”
