  • Thanks that makes some sense. I think the thing is they’ve been effective in the past, and not much else has. Maybe there has to be some sort of sacrifice to gain progress.

I guess some of the postwar progressive (economic) reforms - largely now abolished - were actually a product of democractic pressure rather than protest - but some of the other ones like anti-racism stuff still did require sacrifice and protest on top of that. And the prevailing economic conditions were quite extreme at that time. When people have less to lose there’s less cost.

  • Yes the first thing to cut out is the “unearned income”.

Higher income linked to real work / productivity is unlikely to be as big a problem unless the higher paid/skilled workers start gathering market power and controlling stuff (unearned income like a monopoly premium).

But the original thought experiment seems cart about horse to me - the work and product comes first, coins come along second to make it easier to specialise and trade.

  • I was thinking they might learn or get enchanted with a minor wind cantrip that they can cast on themselves infinite times, and rearrange themselves into words.

They can communicate with any literate character, but slowly, only in words that are short enough. Otherwise they have fo finish the word on their next turn.

If it’s genuinely windy in game, the player has to write their communication with their off hand, blindfold whilst someome shakes them or the paper randomly.
