I love that the meme author took the time to repaint the legs and hammer handle
It’s always loss. No exceptions.
EDIT:

Nah, lost cause. Emigrated out already.
One can hope
in america? do you understand the scale of things here?
Yes. And yes.
and much of the population is spread out. like a hundred miles from the city isnt a crazy distance. it isnt densely packed little states.
You do realize that was a deliberate choice, right? It isn’t like that just happened out of no-where and now it is suddenly immutable, right?
itd be a project on a massive scale to serve few people spread out all over, and even then some people wouldnt have access.
Imagine if what was spent on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_Highway_System was instead spent on rail. 34 year project costing over half a trillion in today’s USD. Why is this generation so scared of massive infrastructure projects?
most cities here do have mass transit, but for those not living close enough a car is the fastest choice to get to their destinations.
And the mass transit is deliberately hobbled (busses/light rail/tram sharing the same lanes as cars, not funded adequately to be scheduled frequently enough to not have to overly plan your day, etc) . And again, the choice to live far away from economic hubs is a result of poor policy (zoning, parking lot minimums, building height restrictions, etc).
But really, these are all self-inflicted problems that can be solved, if only you dreamed a little bigger.
Why do you put up with it? Invest more into public transit, segregated traffic lanes for buses/trams/bikes, and more sane transit policy.
Plus laser and under barrel flashlight. And a little dangly charm of Calvin pissing.

Yeah, good luck re-incorporating those blood-thirsty veterans back into society.

Hold on to that hope. Don’t become the bitter old man you see before you 😉
This pattern has happened over and over and over, generation cycle after generation cycle. Humans are dumb af and I have given up all hope it will self-correct. Even if we had a global civilization ending event, the pattern would survive. Fuckin humans are fundamentally broken and if my disappointment were tangible, it would collapse under its own gravity into a singularity.
I like the idea of extraordinary luck given to players. Giving everything they do a 5% chance of incredible success no matter the difficulty is such a small tweak to let some really hilarious, or awesome things play out. And they will take more risks knowing there is potentially a great reward. How do you balance this? 5% chance of terrible failure no matter how easy. No more automatic success. Sometimes shit just happens and when it happens, it really hurts.
And also, you can just make regular failure more punishing or even make success a monkey’s paw thing: "You want to seduce the lich?! already rolling dice “No, you fail. In your attempt to seduce the lich, his aura of evil has made you impotent. Permanently.” OR "YES NAT TWENTY!! DM deadpan for 10 seconds, then “I have a fetish for fingers. I’ll give you the information you want in exchange for a few those delectable, dainty fingers, half-elf” (Some temporary debuffs that can heal, and they get to skip the fetch quest)

Especially when they are brown.

As if we wouldn’t have a voice/vote to prevent that regulatory capture? And as if social software in particular wouldn’t be reshaped to avoid those regulations? So much of the world runs on FOSS already. It would be a monumental shift in the landscape and I sincerely doubt corpos would be successful in that regulatory capture without shooting themselves in the face. They need FOSS to be profitable.

My god, exactly this. Instead of AI slop features being slammed into every nook and cranny, we’d see software release rate slow to a crawl. Features would take way longer to produce and that would be a good thing. Software engineering licensing should also be a thing, just like with other engineering disciplines. Imagine if your building or bridge were treated like a typical software product. God damn terrifying. It is time for this discipline to grow up.
The pro-gamer move party will key in on “Unlimited Resource” and turn the Generate-A-Spectre button into a steam engine.

Yeah, the shitheads call this “hiding their power level”.
