  • My bad, I must’ve tunnel visioned on some things. But in my defense, the original argument was that he wasn’t doing enough good, not that he wasn’t flawed enough. And with that we’re changing the subject and getting too much into subjectivity. He’s not perfect, far from it… he’s paranoid, his relationships with other characters are far from good or normal because of his issues… his handling of the joker… etc. Could there have been more focus on his flaws and issues? Sure, but that has nothing to do with the original discussion of “why isn’t he using his money to make Gotham a better place”. Which he is, despite what you might say or think. Just because they’re not giving us all the details that doesn’t mean that he isn’t. That’s an artistic choice. You might disagree with that choice, but that doesn’t change the canon.

If there’s one line in the first issue that says “when he’s not busy fighting bad guys, he spends his time investing in social programs and hires ex-convicts in his company in order to reform them and bla bla” and then never mentions it again for the next 300 issues? Then we have to assume that he’s still doing that, because that’s what the writer said. It’s the Batman comics, not the Bruce Wayne comics.

  • These stories are not meant to be realistic, they’re not meant to be so in depth… there’s always going to be issues…

To me all that sounds like we shouldn’t have heroes. Because they could all be doing other, more “efficient” jobs. Except maybe for captain planet…altho I’m sure we can find improvements for that one as well.

And yes, successful villains all end up either people that want to destroy everything or people that want to make things better but doing it wrong. Anything less than that and they’re not important enough.

All these issues are usually features, not bugs, I think.

  • I never said he was morally good. People just like to come into batman discussions and be like "akshually, he could be spending that money on social programs to improve the city ". And the answer is that he’s doing that as well.

I probably misspoke when I said that “he’s doing everything that he can”. Maybe he’s just flawed. I dunno, it’s just a comic book character. Feels pointless to overanalyze him like this. Next issue they could easily write an explanation for why the curse can’t be lifted(or maybe there is one, idk). Or they could say how he’s running out of money because he’s spending so much on social projects. But that wouldn’t really make for a great batman comic, imo. In the end, taking any fictional character so seriously is pointless imo because the answer is always the same on my mind: they did something or are a certain way because the writer thought that would be cool or be an interesting story.

  • “get this through your fucking head”… lmao… you’d have a bit more credibility if you weren’t wrong out of the gate about the “no name on bluesky”… and the Carano thing… and if you weren’t cursing just because people disagree with you… And if you weren’t a no name on lemmy… Thanks but… for now I’ll go with the journalist

You are right about one thing, tho, I’ll give you that. Advertisers have a lot more power than me and you. But not all of us together. Sure, getting a ton of people to agree on one thing is hard, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. That’s what they want you do. To be little obedient little sheep that think they can’t do anything.

  • Disney has over 200k employees. Is it really that much of a stretch that one of them talked to a journalist? I’m not an accountant… haven’t ever talked to one that handles my workplace, but I still know how much money we’re making and how much other branches of the same company are making and what the drama in the other places is and so so much more… people talk… It’s that’s easy.

And even if it’s a lie… Is the 4B drop from disney also a lie? Is the fact that they promptly brought him back also a lie? The fact the first show after his return was watched by 3 times the normal amount of people? The number might be real or it might not, that’s how journalists’ sources work, but it’s accurate that the boycott worked. Even if there were only 10k people, it still had a visible effect. That’s what matters.

You’re the only one saying tragedy. The rest are praising it. One more just for “fun” “much ado about nothing”

At best, according to Chinese sources, it was 300 revolutionaries killed in response to a handful of lynched soldiers -> not praise worthy. That’s called overkill.

At worst, according to the Swiss ambassador that was there, it was 2600-ish people. Definitely not praiseworthy. That’s called a massacre.

Either way, not necessary. Ffs, the whole black lives matter which was a shit show and still there were 35-ish deaths. But yeah, it was necessary and praiseworthy. Give me a break. But it’s good to finally get an actual stance out of you and not just dodgy bs. But you say “PLA” instead of “the army”, so I’m not surprised.

I’m not picking “fights”, lol. I haven’t replied to a .ml thread in months. And I’m not getting into that because I have before and almost none of you have budged an inch.

Not on Tiananmen Square(yeah, it didn’t happen in the actual square, doesn’t mean nothing happened),

not on the Uyghur situation(just because they’re not getting genocided like the gazans doesn’t mean “education camps” is a socially acceptable thing to put someone through),

not on the fact that the metrics that you’re using to compare don’t paint the full picture(such as the whole green energy thing when in reality they’re still one of the highest CO2 emitting countries per capita)

nor on fact that you keep pretending that state capitalism = socialism, which is not. Just because a place is better than the USA doesn’t mean that it’s a good place.

Socially, yeah… Even worse xD I agree, they have tons of work ahead of them. And on certain issues (such as LGBTQ), they’re not really progressing.

Okay, so I felt I needed to reply to that for some reason. But like I said, I’ve talked about these things before, with you included, and you’ve never budged, so I’m not getting back into it. So unless you need to reply for someone else, don’t bother replying to me cause I’m not gonna respond anymore.

Yeah, but that’s because the liberals that you’re talking about are only liberals in name only and they think that China is some autocratic hellscape. It’s easy to be closer to the truth than those people. Also you’re both wrong. As is almost always the case, the truth is somewhere in the middle. But we’re on .ml, so ofc people will disagree with me on that

Yeah, when I said “every” I didn’t mean that literally. But at least 3-4 of the bigger ones. Which is a lot. Especially since I’ve talked to actual Chinese people that live in China that are less delusional. But you do you.
