Why did they all laugh?
You will also have to recompile the official apps with the new domain/IP. And then keeping both updated. That’s too much work. I’d rather self-host Matrix without federation. Or XMPP.

Jellyfin: The Free Software Media System@lemmy.ml•Music recommendation / auto playlistEnglish
3·1 year agoThis may not be what you want but I use Feishin client on my desktop, and it has button to play random songs. I just click it, select a range of release year and then select the number of songs I want. It automatically creates a temporary playlist. I think it also has a genre selection, so this might help you.

2·2 years agoI have used an old MacBook Air as a home server with Fedora for about 2 years. Fedora with Podman can be great, especially when you can use Cockpit (a GUI for managing containers), which is pre-installed and perfectly integrated.
Another option is to use TrueNAS. I can also recommend OpenMediaVault.
For exposing your services on the internet I suggest caution. If your ISP does not let you forward your ports, you can read this. https://blog.aiquiral.me/bypass-cgnat

Jellyfin: The Free Software Media System@lemmy.ml•Can raspberry pi 3b+ run a jellyfin server?English
16·2 years agoIf you aren’t relying on transcoding, you’re good. I am sure it can handle one or maybe even two streams. Most modern devices can decode H.264 and H.265/HEVC easily, and some even AV1. Watching videos with these codecs on any Smart TV or phone won’t give you a hard time.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•how can i self host my music?English
5·2 years agoI forward it to my domain, so that I can listen to music in my office or anywhere else.
I have a VPS on hetzner, and I forward all my local traffic through that VPS via TLS-passthrough, not TLS termination using WireGuard amd HAProxy.
To know more about my setup, you can this this. https://blog.aiquiral.me/bypass-cgnat

RTX 3060 with 12gb vram. Cheap, when bought used, and larger VRAM when compared to other options in this price range, but it will be slow. Or if you can find one, go for Arc B50 16GB VRAM, very power efficient.
