Furthermore, prayer is not action.
You say that like he has a strong point.
Did he actually post that, or is this a clever hoax?

Political Memes@lemmy.world•He's grateful that left is obsessed with Trump.
13·11 months ago👏Lock👏Them 👏All👏Up👏
But right now,Trump is the one that promised to release the files and then refused to release them when he found out how much he’s in them and is now forcing Congress to vote to force him to release the files that he promised to release and can just release right this minute without Congress voting on it and then we’d all wake up to all of the unredacted files because Trump “DOESN’T CARE” and has “NOTHING TO HIDE” so instead of just releasing the files like he can do he’s instead dragging his feet and deflecting because he actually does care very much about you not finding out about whatever it is that he’s hiding.

3·11 months agoNo need to apologize, and I don’t mean to imply that you shouldn’t have posted. It’s good to know people are out there fighting the good fight. I look forward to similar posts in future months and hope someday RWW will start producing images that I can forward to my proverbial Uncle Joe that can start to break his shell and doesn’t just give him a toe hold to start a pointless debate and dig in further into his beliefs.
ETA:
The platform where I got this from is a shit show where certain people literally defend this shit.
Maybe I’m being too optimistic about what will convince Uncle Joe.

2·11 months agoI do not work with them nor am I associated with them in any way.
I didn’t think you were. That’s why my critique was directed at them, not you.
You’re preaching to the choir, here.
20 some years ago I ran a blog with this exact kind of content. I had saved Google searches that would find news articles that I would verify before posting. I limited them to people convicted of any crime, not simply arrested or charged, where their religion was somehow relevant to the story, and still averaged about one a day. The overwhelming majority were religious authority figures (predominantly Christian) commiting sex crimes against children in their care. It was fucking exhausting and depressing and drained my mental health, which is why I quit.
People already aware of this problem don’t need to be flooded with reminders of it. What they need is the ammunition to take these reminders to those close to them that somehow aren’t aware.
RWW has already done 99% of the work. All I’m suggesting is that they do the extra 1% so that anybody that doesn’t have the time or energy to go dig up this stuff themselves can just forward it to Aunt June and know that Aunt June won’t be able to rebut any of it. They don’t want to waste time debating Aunt Jane. They’ve got their own shit to do. What they want is for want Aunt Jane to STFU about how “Pastor Bob is so good with the kids.”

1·11 months agobefore declaring “both sides”
I’m absolutely not declaring “both sides” and it’s disingenuous of you to imply that I am. For that, kindly fuck off.
What I’m saying is that, as posted, this kind of content comes across as baseless propaganda.
The group compiling this are clearly doing a lot of work. Why? I would hope it’s to convince people that are reachable but need convincing.
You say that there’s a Facebook page with details on each one. Great. Then the image just needs a little fine print at the bottom, “See our Facebook page for sources.”
But they’re still leaving the “innocent until proven guilty” door wide open. They should definitely close that.

5·11 months agoThis is great for preaching to the choir and reinforcing beliefs people already have. However, to convince people that need convincing, this kind of thing needs to be backed up with evidence.
I can’t just send this image to Uncle Joe. He’s going to instantly dismiss it as lefty propaganda, and laugh at me for credulously believing it.
I need to also send a link to a web page that lists the people with each name linked to a news article from a reputable source. The individual news articles would need to make it clear that this person was both A) a Trump supporter, and B) convicted of the crime.
As near as I can tell, Reich Wing Watch doesn’t even have their own website. The closest I can find is an Instagram account. Neither Uncle Joe or I have Instagram accounts, so even if RWW backs up the details in each image with verifiable links, Uncle Joe is NOT going to sign up for Instagram just to go see.
From what’s visible on the Instagram account without logging in, it appears that they’re including people who have simply been arrested. Uncle Joe is going to justifiably play the “innocent until proven guilty” card.
Sure, a majority of those arrested will likely be found guilty. But, if true, that means that for every month that you have 40-50 trumpets arrested for this crime, you’ll have about the same number of other trumpets convicted as well. Focus on those people and keep the arrested people on the back burner until they’re convicted, and you slam the door on the “innocent until proven guilty” rebuttal.
In summary, to be affective for anything more than reinforcing the beliefs of those that don’t need to be convinced…
- RWW needs their own website where people can see what they have without needing an account to log into.
- Every one of thier images like the one posted above needs a dedicated page listing each person with links to reputable news articles.
- The news articles need to make it clear that the person was A. Convicted B. A Right Winger
- Each image needs to include a short, easy to type in, url to the specific page for that image.
Without that, right wingers will just see this as easily dismissible Lefty propaganda and “proof” that we’re all gullible and brainwashed.
The conversation could be more along the lines of,
Reporter: “Mr President, polls show a majority of Americans want Universal Healthcare, and think the billionaires should pay for it. What are your thoughts?”
a week later
Different Reporter: “Mr President, a poll released yesterday shows a vast majority of Americans would absolutely worship you if you made billionaires pay for universal healthcare and UBI, instituted ranked choice voting for all elected offices nationwide, and outlawed gerrymandering. Why don’t you want them to worship you?”
I’m going to lay at least partial blame for this at the feet of dumbass reporters looking for a story repeatedly giving him ideas and downright nagging him to do something horrible.
Reporter: "Mr President, are you going to [do horrible thing]?
Trump: “Well, that’s something I hadn’t thought of, but I could if I wanted to.”
The following week.
Different Reporter: “Mr President, last week you said you could [do horrible thing]. Any progress on that?”
Trump: “I’m considering it. I could, you know.”
The following week.
Trump: [does horrible thing]
Reporters: [excitedly running to the news desk] “I’ve got a story!”
The Story: “Trump [does horrible thing] [shocked Pikachu face]”
Except, no.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•Not that hypocrisy carries any weight on the right, but for those who *are* keeping score. (alt version in body)
1·1 year agoYou absolutely do not understand No True Scotsman, then.
This whole thing started with you arguing against someone that stated that there is no central authoritative body that decides who is and isn’t christian. You have yet to present one. Instead, you just present YOUR criteria, as if you’re the authoritative body, but your not, because there isn’t one.
I could call myself a Christian and make up whatever criteria I want that makes me qualified, and there’s nobody to stop me.
If you can find an actual example of a Christian denomination that…
And even if I did, you would reject it because they don’t meet your definition of a Christian denomination, so I still failed to “find an actual example of a Christian denomination that…”

5·1 year agothere is one standard that all Christians agree to
Except those that don’t. You’re committing the fallacy right there. If those people over there that call themselves Christians don’t agree with your arbitrary criteria, then they’re not true Christians. Except your only evidence to back up your claim is, “trust me bro.” There’s no license or certificate from any kind of authority. It’s just you making shit up.
Allow me to demonstrate.
All Christians have a tattoo on their forehead of Jesus on the cross with a pool of blood at the base of the cross. Every year they go through a secretive cleansing and atonement ritual that culminates in an update to the tattoo that makes the pool of blood bigger. You can identify the most pious Christians by how big their pool of blood is.
If you don’t have this tattoo, then you’re not a Christian and your erroneous opinion of what criteria makes someone christian is irrelevant.

113·1 year agoTo summarize, the person you responded to stated
There is no authority, no person or group of people, authorized to decide who is a Christian and who is not.
To which you responded,
Yes there absolutely are.
Followed by a wall of text that presented absolutely zero authority figures authorized to decide who is, and isn’t, christian.
All you gave is YOUR criteria, but there’s no reason anybody needs to follow your criteria. You’re also not authorized to decide. That’s the point.
