The Great Depression had spurred increased state ownership in most Western capitalist countries. This also took place in Germany during the last years of the Weimar Republic. However, after the Nazis took power, industries were privatized en masse. Several banks, shipyards, railway lines, shipping lines, welfare organizations, and more were privatized. The Nazi government took the stance that enterprises should be in private hands wherever possible. State ownership was to be avoided unless it was absolutely necessary for rearmament or the war effort, and even in those cases “the Reich often insisted on the inclusion in the contract of an option clause according to which the private firm operating the plant was entitled to purchase it.”
A very large portion of Germany was quite happy, going along between 1930 and 1938, simply because of the fact that they had a better life - looking the other way as your Jewish neighbour was deported (or worse) was a necessary evil for a very large portion. Giving up most worker rights as well.

On a side note: Those Hitler comparisons are stupid, imho as a German. Hitler and his entire staff was actually quite competent and benefited the German people - Trump and his cronies are basically just corrupt and don’t think further than their own nose points. They also don’t help the American people in any way - quite the contrary… Doesn’t make them any less dangerous, but Hitler got nearly 80% of votes in fair elections back then…Trump cheated and heavily used voter suppression, so that’s also very different.

Specifically as a German, i can only tell you: Trump is as far away from Hitler as Washington from Berlin. Sure, Trumps clearly fascist, but at best he’s Temus Version of Hitler. Remember, Hitler was quite competent in various things and actually listened to his staff in the beginning. Not only that, Göring, the Gestapo and various other members were intelligent and had some serious education. There were many, many People you probably never heard of that helped Hitler in many ways. While some of us question the necessity of learning this stuff, it is still taught in schools and while i have to admit to have forgotten the Details, Himmler, Göring, Heidrich, Heß and Wiedemann are just 5 people in the spotlight. Trump’s MAGAts are dangerous no doubt and they are going to wreck basically everything. But let’s be honest…they aren’t competent, they don’t know shit except “destroying” stuff. But they will go down with the destruction.
Hitler actually did stuff for the People, that’s why most Germans did go along and you have to remember, Germany was basically on it’s knees and grasped for straws. The issue(s) in the U.S. right now are very different - but most people still do very well, especially since Biden did one hell of an impossible job. However, the gap between the “well off” and the “fucked” is going to grow wider and Trump and his incompetent bunch can still use it to basically tear down any and all civil rights because there are not enough people paying any attention. Germans did pay attention back then and they desperately wanted change. Not to mention, Hitler had a lot of help from inside the Weimarer Republic.
I don’t want to downplay this, but the parallels are currently still limited to politics and some unpleasant side effects that restrict the freedom of individuals, but do not have many effects on the whole. So if Trump declares Martial Law, i think he’s not going to last long after that - because by that point, things will have deteriorated far enough, that enough people will care and take action. Unfortunately this will have very ugly side effects for all of you and probably the rest of the world and may even be civilization ending…
I have learned so much I’ve forgotten over half of it.
The crux is, i have learned it, told myself “Oh yeah, that’s on Wikipedia” and only remember where to find what information. I’m utterly useless without Wikipedia, as many family quiz losses around Christmas turned out… Hell, even sources i use for discussions on the internet i get often from Wikipedia articles, they sometimes link the actual studies…my google foo is pretty good, but some things i’m simply unable to find, except in the Wikipedia source lists…
Didn’t know that exists, that’s pretty neat! However, not really what i’m looking for in this case, because i don’t want to use a device other than the printer itself. With scan to folder, you just set the MFP to scan something to an FTP, SMB or whatever folder. The ET-4850 unfortunately doesn’t support that, so i’m looking for an alternative…i could just run a Windows VM on my Proxmox and let that do the “Scan-To” stuff, but that’s pretty resource intensive… But the more i look in to it, it seems there is no solution (except a Windows VM) for this, as SANE only “speaks to the MFP” and the MFP can’t talk to SANE via WSD…

For that, the PC has to be on. I’m using that as well, but that’s not really what i want it to do in this case. For example…i get a an invoice in the mail, i open the mail and the Epson is in the hallway downstairs, right next to the main door. I put an ASN/Barcode on the original document concerning the user paperpless should file that document under, scan the document and put it in the loose filing bin…etc. Basically, i do not want to have to use the PC.

You don’t have to fake ballots. You can just throw absentee ballots out, after them being challenged…which happens since 2000 (it’s apparently one of the reasons Bush won), this time however there have been over 800k ballots that have been thrown out…in swing states alone.

Do not forget, the Germans didn’t have Weapons at that time AND there was way less to actually organize - you can fight this! And do not let people tell you, Germans just did go with it.

US military power already far exceeds that of every other country on Earth.
That isn’t entirely true. Looking at soldier numbers in general, NATO without the U.S. has ~ 1.2 Million active, the U.S. as a whole over all branches has roughly 1.4 Million - that’s however including National Guard. Without that, it’s 1.1 Million. Most NATO countries however do reserves different, Germany alone has 930k in Reserves (meaning, they either had military training or are receiving it on a rotational basis), the U.S. has ~ 300k. All of that combined gives Europe roughly 2.5 Million Soldiers that can be put in to service very fast. Since organizational structures are very similar on all accounts, if need be, that would happen fast. Remember, the EU also has very similar guarantees as NATO, meaning if one is attacked, the others vowed to help. If Europe actually tried with their military spending, we’d be able to outspend the U.S. by a lot - easily. Keep in mind…we’re (=Europe) supplying Ukraine with more than the U.S. does, and most of our arms industry is still not even trying. Airbus, Rheinmetall, BAE, KMW, Navantia, Safran, ThyssenKrupp…they are all “trotting along” right now. Except Nuclear Threats, the U.S. hasn’t got much to “best” others, IF Europe actually kicks in to gear (granted, that all needs the European Union not to crumble as well…) even technology wise the U.S. isn’t that “overwhelming”. Look up U33 and U32 - they both sank entire U.S. Carrier Groups in many simulations regularly - they still do. Hell, they even put two Los-Angeles class U-Boats to shame, they sunk them too. Most of the European U-Boats are pretty similar on that aspect as well, the Italians actually have the same and the French Triomphant-class isn’t that bad either.
Germany’s “collapse” of a Coalition is not necessarily something unprecedent. It has happened a few times and is also a sign for a very healthy democracy. In Germany, most of the governing power comes from ministries and state secretaries - those do not change with the collapse of a coalition. Our system is more robust than that of the U.S. against those kinds of issues (it isn’t when the truth just get’s thrown out of the window) - however, i also believe that the U.S. System is more robust than most of you give it credit.
And i agree, it’s unfair, but as an educated immigrant, actually wanting to work and putting the effort in to learn the language and be considerate of the culture - you’ll be fine, even with more right leaning governments throughout Europe.
The thing is…what if they are going down the Putin route and start throwing nuclear threats around? Anyone remember Trump trying to nuke a hurricane? Fascism and having a very rough 4 years is one thing…but as a European, that actually scares me a lot more. Because if they decide, well, Europe is unfriendly…we’ll just nuke them…whose going to stop them this time around?
Silver lining could be, they’ll just do a lot of infighting and bickering and do not get stuff done properly. There’s a very slim chance that the U.S. Democracy can withstand that again.
