  • It HAD to go before a vote in Cali. We didn’t have a choice politically since our independent election map commission is enshrined into the state constitution. In Texas they don’t have anything remotely enshrined into their constitution so for us here in Cali we had to put it to the people and even then it’s sorta weak since it has an exact end date in 2030. It’s only here for one cycle before it falls off and goes back. Which could be dangerous if the other states don’t stop gerrymandering.

That or we’ll just leave next time.

  • Completely agree with your points. I own several AR-15s (that I refer to as assault rifles in long form and AR in short form) and even battle rifles and if you even walk into any gun store they would call them AR. Which they’d say means armalite rifle, except that it’s a brand name… so it would certainly seem they’re either saying Kleenex, or it’s referring to something with a more common name… just gun people think anyone saying “assault rifle” isn’t in the know or is looking to take their guns. Which is stupid.

Common parlance is changing and it’s very simple.

  • I’m a gun owner, but the US has the “highest rate” of ownership in a way that most Americans don’t understand stats. We have a shitload of guns, enough for like one in every humans arms. However only like 45% of homes have guns. Like me most of us gun owners don’t just own one, we own like… a number that’s greater than 5. So it skews the data.

Still I thankfully live in Blue AF California. My guns are for when we go to secede. Which I feel is getting sooner. Cascadia and all that.

  • Since the other comments seem to be less than useful ideas on things you didn’t ask about…

I keep my NAS/Video server for my home cameras in my gun safe. Costco has a gun safe (really can be used for anything like documents too since it’s fire rated) that had power cable running to the inside. I used the same path to run a data cable and keep it all locked up in there with a monitor mounted on top and a UPS in the middle. My safe is close to my room with the idea being if someone wanted to break in I’d keep the footage. Not that anyone would, but like you seem to be asking I’m more concerned about the what if.

The rest of the switches/routers/WAP Controller is located in my home office closet inside of one of those on-Q boxes in the wall.

  • Of course trans people will be here after he’s gone, but the people that elected him to office will also still be here. I’ve been saying it since before the first Trump presidency, but this is going to take a lot more work and a lot of people will need to have their opinions changed, or be forced to accept that trans people deserve to live the same happy, well meaning life the rest of us straight people enjoy (I’m saying straight now because lord knows this administration won’t stop at the T in LGBT).

If you’ve never volunteered for politics before get out and volunteer, phone bank, email, support financially, anything you can do for the next few elections will absolutely make a difference. Use your 2nd amendment right as well. There’s no shame in arming yourself and going to the range. Connect with local friends who know how to shoot and train with firearms or reach out to SRA groups that would be willing to provide assistance. You’d be surprised, but at my local gun range (it’s in Cali for what it’s worth) is fairly diverse and very neutral to all customers. So you won’t get pushed out, just won’t feel all warm and fuzzy from them. This administration seems to be taking stances that obviously mean many minority groups, trans people included, will be under a microscope and critiqued for anything and everything. Don’t assume things will get to a point of needing to use your rights, but also don’t be afraid to prepare and exercise them.
