The term as used might not be consistent with a specific definition, but I’m pretty sure this wasn’t about “technically, that isn’t the correct term to denounce his sexual abuse of minors with” so much as shifting the goalposts for what counts as sexual abuse of minors in the first place. It’s a shorthand, and both parties agree what it’s short for, it’s just that they draw the lines for that thing differently.
So no, it’s not that people “hate to think things through rationally”, because rationally thinking things through makes it clear that the context isn’t a scientific one, but a moral and legal one. It’s not wrong, you’re just emotionally attached to a specific meaning.
I’d be more concerned about her being too right wing.
Two things can be true at once.
But also, 59 is getting close to geriatocracy territory. Just because the Senate is named after an institution of old men doesn’t mean it should strive to imitate all the bullshit of its namesake.

The job of a defender is to hold the judicial system to a high standard, to ensure the prosecution does its job properly and to provide a counterweight on the scales of justice.
If a criminal walks free, it’s not the fault of the defender, but of the prosecution if they failed to find convincing evidence of his guilt.
Coversely, if an innocent person does get convicted, the defender failed to effectively refute the evidence.
Of course, this idealism doesn’t hold if the system is fucked by crooked courts, biased judges and competent, committed counsel being unaffordable to poor people, but that also doesn’t mean the defender is to blame for playing their part well.

Maybe the name got mixed up in transmission 😄

I bet all the federal workers out of a paycheck right now are gonna be really thankful for getting 2k instead of a stable income.
Meanwhile, the corporate parasites are already salivating at the prospect of the indirect cash injection from government coffers.
IIRC there were reinforcements within range, but they couldn’t leave their post without the Führer’s ordering so. Hence, his army was paralysed and couldn’t respond.

Satire doesn’t require falsehood or exaggeration.
In this case, the two parts of that statement (“My religion is opposed to jacking off”, “I don’t care about feeding the poor”) aren’t usually made explicit or said together. By saying the quiet parts out loud and putting them in direct juxtaposition, this headline calls him out on his hypocrisy.

That is exactly what I mean: The creeping erosion of rights and protections. Sudden change can lead to backlash by people who hate change, but slow change can dig far deeper hooks with less resistance. My pr-hope-osition is that this could work the other way too. If people aren’t ready for a full swing-around to progressive politics, maybe an iterative “slightly better” can ease them in.
Obviously, slow progress is agonising and we’d like things to get better quickly, but if it means coaxing formerly reactionary regressives out of their hole, maybe it’s a sensible approach for deep red areas.

Maybe this turns out to be baby steps? We’ve seen the power of creeping change, maybe creeping progress is the antidote to the accumulated regressive rot.

Progressives and liberals can absolutely work together to rally against a common enemy. The fascists clearly are the bigger problem, if you’re not a fan of authoritarian oppression.
That “if” there is a big issue though, because “leftists” as such aren’t a single unified force. There is a vocal portion that evidently has no issue with authoritarian control. We don’t need to dig into reasons here, but I think it’s important to acknowledge that distinction.
All the more critical then is the visibility and unity of the democratic strains of leftism, standing shoulder to shoulder with other enemies of authoritarianism.

So they should just hand it to the people that want to expand the genocide to their own country as well?

I work with a Data Warehouse that has a date table where the month is a text column. No, I don’t mean the name, I mean the month number. It’s a text. If I sort by month, I get this exact result.
It’s not a huge issue, really, but pissed me off when I finally realised why my shit looks all wrong.

We’re all wrestling in the mud now, but at least we’re not just bending over.
That’s such a succinct way to put it.
I always thought of it as fighting with one arm tied behind your back. An honorable death doesn’t help the living.

The enemy is both weak and strong

It’s a sustainable way to dispose of waste

Oh it would be a private road. A nice alley lined with trophies of self-aggrandisement and narcissism, closed off to the public who only get to look on through a fence as he gets driven up and down his rue de merde (which someone told him is related to merit, so he ate it right up, because fact checking is for losers) in a pimped out golf cart.

TST might. Subverting theopolitical bullshit is kinda their jam.
See, you’ve got it all figured out!
So get off of Lemmy, those 20 jobs won’t do themselves! You don’t want to be fired, do you?
Is “I do not recall” a valid answer?
