  • Well, i like to monitor the insane circular firing squad that is r/conservative, and opinion seems split on this between “Trump likes literally anyone who talks nice to him” “Mamdani is a cultured immigrant who knows how to behave in polite society” (whew boy) and, of, course, the winner seems to be their constant and automatic refrain for whenever Trump does something stupid, unintelligible, or obviously directly opposed to their values: “4D Chess.”

Between Epstein, MTG, Zohran and calling for the death sentence for dems saying troops are required to disobey illegal orders, that place has been looking like the grim reaper swept through every thread lol

I mean, you didn’t have multiple militia groups and a bunch of rioters break into the Supreme Court trying to stop them from making that ruling, and then all get arrested and sent to jail, and then all get pardoned by the very guy they wanted to illegally stay in office, so yeah, bush v gore was relatively boring.

  • yeah this is a fair point, there has not been a time in US history when our politics was not fucked up in same way or other, and we weren’t doing a bunch of terrible shit both across the world and domestically. I just hate when people look at Trump and are like “yep, this is what we’ve always been, every President is exactly like this.” Because they are simultaneously so right and so very very wrong about that.

  • I think people forget that Harris only had a mere 15 weeks between Biden dropping out and election day to establish herself and try to bootstrap and run some kind of campaign that wasn’t just her wearing Joe’s skin. It’s insane that anyone expected her to win under those conditions and Biden could not have fucked us harder with his arrogance. Add to that the headwinds of her being a woman of color, not especially charismatic, and to the right of her base on many issues, and the outcome was written in stone from the start.

  • Overall I agree, except that words and their definitions are all that our legal system really has to operate on. If I’m ever in legal trouble, you better believe I want someone defending me who takes words and their meaning deadly seriously. Cause laws, transcripts, testimony, the constitution, all of it top to bottom is just words and definitions that has massive power over our lives. So I can’t just say “labels and terms don’t matter to me” because, like it or not, words are the metaprogramming language of every government, scientific, educational and legal body on earth. And if you don’t care about them, but your opponents do, you just walked off a critical battlefield and gave up huge ground without a fight.
