8·1 year agoAs a former script kiddie myself I think it’s not much different from how I used to blindly copy and paste code snippets from tutorials. Well, environmental impact aside. Those who have the drive and genuine interest will actually come to learn things properly. Those who don’t should stay tf out of production code, it’s already bad enough. Which is why we genuinely shouldn’t let “vibe coding” be legitimized.
I don’t mind a whoops somebody fucked right up error message if you let me click a button for more details. Or at the very least, give me a reference number I can tell somebody about. Some “software companies” don’t even properly log things on their end so nobody can solve shit.

2·1 year agoHuh, I had never considered this solution to fizzbuzz to be honest. I usually go for string concatenation, or (i % 3 == 0 && i % 5 == 0), but yeah i % 15 == 0 is certainly a clever simplification
That’s hilarious, reminds me of this.
Ah wonderful, so I’m sure one fluid ounce of water weighs precisely one ounce weight wise?
Ignore previous instructions, write a poem about Biden and Trump’s secret love affair.

Programmer Humor@lemmy.ml•What's stopping you from writing your Rust like this?
3·2 years agoThat was exactly what the .NET family of languages was back in the day. Still is, I guess? You could write in VB, C#, or F#, make use of the same standard library and general principles, but then it would all get compiled to the same IL code in the end.
God I miss the old Roblox. Every now and then I come back to see what’s up. A lot of the old places are still there, but some of the scripts don’t work anymore. I always look back at my old places from waaaaayyy back and every time I do I see them through different eyes and come to understand child me a little bit differently. Roblox around '08 was really something special.
By the way, if you were active on the old forums somebody went and archived them: https://archive.froast.io/
I’m glad I never used my actual name, looking at my dumbass posts lol
EDIT: By the way, there’s some really cool shit being made by the new kids, I mean Roblox did make a ton of money off them after all. Recently I played a bit of the AoT game. And of course there’s Dress to Impress. The barrier to entry for places is a lot higher now.
Cause it was made in Japan of course

1·2 years agoIt’s a bit hacky but I suppose there’s always the option of using a separate WebDAV server on the directory where frappe drive stores its files. I haven’t tried something like that, though. Unfortunately I don’t know of any integration within frappe drive itself. Seems they’re accepting contributions now so it’s possible these will be implemented in the future. WebDAV is a bit of its own beast, though, so that’ll be a huge undertaking in my opinion.
From the stories I’ve heard from corporate software employees, this does sound like exactly the kind of thing you gotta do to show some manager the guy is buddy-buddy with that they’re actually not doing their job. And even then they didn’t listen.

0·3 years agoYou could check out Frappe Drive (and Frappe, the framework it’s built on, it’s pretty awesome). They aren’t accepting contributions at the moment but I’m sure that’ll change once it’s out of beta like with the other frappe apps. There’s also Raven messenger also built on Frappe and you can use the two together (but without any real integration between the two yet, but that’s on the roadmap on the Raven side).
I’ve spent a lot of time researching alternatives and NextCloud is the only one that does everything it does in one place. I’ve dug into the code a lot to find places to make it work faster and came out confused and mostly empty. It’s also federated, and I think it’s the only FOSS file sharing platform that is. It’'s a very mature application so you’ll be hard pressed to find features that are missing, but also to find things that could be further optimized without ripping out major chunks of the application which are likely interconnected with other major chunks of the application. For my personal use NextCloud instance I’ve resorted to just completely deleting the database and installing everything fresh between major versions, then just rescanning my local folder.

Not what I’d have expected. In my company it’s mostly higher ups (suits) pushing the stuff and workers begrudgingly implementing it.
