politics @lemmy.world•Dems eye new way to shake up 2028 primaries: ranked-choice votingEnglish
762·11 months agoI just want to point out that Ranked-Choice Voting was on the ballot in Colorado in 2024. It ultimately failed because it was opposed by both parties. I was surprised, because I talked through the issues with a friend who considered herself “very progressive” she mentioned she was against Ranked-Choice Voting because her Democratic Voting Guide recommended voting against it.
From https://tsscolorado.com/colorado-voters-easily-reject-ranked-choice-voting/
…it angered both Democratic and Republican party leaders and drew opposition from prominent Democratic backers, including a plethora of unions, progressive groups and some environmental organizations.

politics @lemmy.world•Majority of Latino voters disapprove of Trump, Pew study findsEnglish
7·11 months ago81% of those who voted for Trump approve of the president’s job

After the 2024 election, Latinos, particularly Latino men, credited Trump’s economic proposals and immigration policies – suggesting he was not serious about threats of mass deportations – for winning their vote.
At the time, two-thirds of Latinos said they “do not feel like he is talking about me” when Trump discussed his immigration policies
How ignorant do you have to be to have seen Trump’s first term, then heard the rhetoric of him running again twice, and thought “yes his racism is against people like me, but surely he’ll know I’m one of the good ones”?
And 81% of those people still believe that after everything that’s happened so far!

5·1 year agoI like how now that it’s inevitable, he’s pivoted to saying the Republicans should release them. He’s like a fucking toddler who shit himself and is insisting he meant to do that.

One of the Epstein’s emails was from his brother telling Epstein to ask if Putin has the pictures of Trump blowing Bubba.
Bill Clinton was famously called Bubba, so now everyone is having a field day speculating that Trump gave Clinton a blowjob.

5·1 year agoIt’s a pretty common way of saying things that are outrageous but then walking them back a bit to cover yourself. That way, the people that agree with the outrageous thing you said feel like you’re with them, while normal people are told that what you said wasn’t offensive because you walked it back.
I saw an interesting article about it when Charlie Kirk got shot. He would do the same thing saying stuff like “If I see a Black pilot, I’m gonna be like, ‘Boy, I hope he’s qualified.’” Then he would try to walk it back just a bit so the racists would be like “I agree with everything he’s saying!” and if a normal person pushed back he could argue what he said wasn’t racist.

So, by “barely legal” you mean “100% illegal”?

“Uh are you sure? I can see another plane on the runway.”
“You’re totally right! I did not account for the other plane on the runway. You are clear to land now.”
I didn’t know what to take from this interaction, other than maybe /u/tupalos is a shark.
Do you have a source for that? I’ve heard about how during the Great French Wine Blight that nearly all French wineries now use grafted root stock since American plants were resistant. But I’ve never read anything about California’s vines being grafted with French or Italian vines and grown in California to make “good” wine.

It really does show that 1) People in general aren’t very smart. Most people won’t do some basic research to see what they’re voting for. And 2) Most people are just going to vote how their party tells them.
