politics @lemmy.world•Jeffrey Epstein’s Brother Claims He Heard ‘from a Pretty Good Source’ That Epstein Files Are Being Scrubbed of Republican Names
22·10 months agoOne did. On a date. This made mainstream news 2 months ago: https://youtu.be/tx5F6llyaVw
The problem with that is it becomes inspirational. So many of the people (who are actually paying attention and not just blindly voting for the party their community does) think of themselves as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Can a Smart TV piggy back the internet of a HDMI device?English
5·10 months agoIt’s not just the obsoleteness of it, it’s the fact that any device that is on the other end of the TV’s HDMI cable would need to be actively routing internet traffic into the HDMI connection. What device would do that? Any device that’s using the TV as output for itself has no reason to also include network access.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump fires federal arts board in charge of reviewing White House ballroom and ‘Arc de Trump’
146·10 months agoMaybe it’s just me, but if the president can fire them at a whim and replace them with whoever he wants, they don’t seem very “independent.”

politics @lemmy.world•Second "No Kings Day" protests likely the largest single-day political demonstration since 1970, with 5.5-8.7 million participants
22·11 months agoI want to find some reliable numbers, but I think it’s going to take time for this google doc spreadsheet that is collating numbers to have accurate estimates. Especially since it community driven, using news articles that don’t have good data themselves. For example, I’ve seen drone footage of the San Diego march that clearly shows more than the 25k that is being used. SDPD said there were “over 25k in attendance.” Analysis of the video puts the crowd size closer to 35-40k (and that’s just for what was in frame for the video, at the time it was taken).

14·11 months agoThe article says he was “encountered during a targeted enforcement action.” That sounds like they grabbed him while doing something else and everything they’re saying after is an attempt to justify accidentally arresting what they later found out to be a cop who legally immigrated to the US.

politics @lemmy.world•The Democratic Party Faces a Voter Registration Crisis
71·1 year agoWhy does this graph not show total registrations? Fuck the Democratic Party. They’ve dropped the ball consistently for too long. I only hope that enough leftists continue to vote in any races that survive this administration.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump coaches Republicans to say “Obama cheated on the election” every time they’re asked about Jeffrey Epstein
2·1 year agoCompletely agree. In fact, if he dies before then, it’s likely to have the opposite effect.
Genuinely think this format is a great way to write character backstory. Not any of the content beneath the headers, that’s for the DM and player to flesh out during sessions. The Nickelodeon Board of Directors are the big bad for one campaign, the guy who framed you for arson is just chillin in the pub you walked into, etc. Work out the details like it’s an improv scene.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump coaches Republicans to say “Obama cheated on the election” every time they’re asked about Jeffrey Epstein
8·1 year agoThe problem is definitely bigger than just him. That doesn’t mean that the world won’t instantly become a better place once he’s dead.
I do hope that there’s some kind of mask off, smoking gun situation (that doesn’t require any more suffering than has already happened) that causes his followers to realize they have been deceived and prevents them from voting so stupidly again. I realize how unrealistic this sounds, but it is my fantasy.
After WW2, Germany taught its citizens the truth about the atrocities that Hitler and his party committed. A nationalist party didn’t start to get a foothold there again until the population that lived through the previous one had almost completely died off. That’s 80 years of progress and growth that could hopefully get the US back on track. If we can stop things now before they get to holocaust/world war levels, maybe next time the fascists take hold, it’ll be even less catastrophic than the current situation in the US. A few more of those cycles and we (as a global society, because clearly everyone reading this will be long dead) can get to our Star Trek utopia.
Lack of empathy is the core root cause of SO MANY right wing causes. It kills me because empathy itself is the core teaching of Christianity. If they were actually good Christians, they would live their lives undo the credo “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Anyway, I find Satanists (TST, specifically) and Leftists far more empathetic.

politics @lemmy.world•AOC says she's worth less than $500,000 after kickback claims — and seems to get kudos from Trump fans in response
6·2 years agoThere’s a difference between offering opposition to outright fascism, and being the hope of the future of a political party. The bar is so low right now that I’m happy whenever I hear of someone pushing back in any amount, but AOCs passion and unrelenting sense of justice is fucking inspiring.

politics @lemmy.world•Harris Taunts Trump After He Backs Out of Debates
01·2 years agoHonestly, I love this, but I think the impersonator aspect cheapens it. Take clips of things he’s said and play them on a screen behind a podium across the stage from her. Have a moderator prompt the clips, have her rebuke/fact check them. Done.
He doesn’t want to debate? Fine, we’ll have the debate without him. He’s already said what the people need to know. We just need to cut through the mountains of indecipherable bullshit he’s said while meandering around the point. Do him a favor and edit that down to his actual stance, as succinctly and clearly as possible. Don’t turn it into a joke making fun of how terrible he is at speaking, show people what he really wants to do.

01·2 years agoI’m beginning to think the play is for Joe to only last till the election because there’s no fucking way the country is going to learn about and be excited by one single person with the amount of time the completely incompetent DNC has left us with. If Joe decides he’s too banged up on day one, he can leave the office then.

I did.
The verb “to lynch”(like the city of Lynchburg) comes from the same family. Literally. Charles Lynch is older brother to John Lynch (abolitionist and founder of Lynchburg).
