As someone in that group, there’s a huge difference between doing well on paper and actually doing well. At one point I was very confused by the “emptying out mental asylums” talk, but after hearing him say something along the lines of “And you have the immigrants coming here from asylums, they’re literally sending us insane people”, it’s pretty clear at this point he absolutely thinks “asylum” means “mental institution”.

Honestly, knowing the dire straights the NRA has been in the past 10 years or so, it wouldn’t be a bad time to try and rebrand.
