politics @lemmy.world•Bernie Sanders floats AOC as potential 2028 presidential contender: ‘Very good politician’
173·10 months agoI like AOC and agree with her on a lot. And I really would like to see how she would handle it. But as a straight white guy in his 40’s that honestly wants to see things get better for everyone I also dread the tidal wave of dog whistle reasons the GOP will bring out for why she is unfit.
I know that is the point, but the constant avalanche of ignorant talking points that hearken back to “the good ole days” when men were men, women were arm candy, and brown people shared a corner on the floor with the family dog in these peoples minds that they disguise as honest engagement with a legitimate issue in the country is starting to burn me out.

121·10 months agoCould, but very unlikely they actually will.
Not many cops are going to go around arresting ICE agents for such things I don’t imagine.

politics @lemmy.world•Do protests like No Kings still matter? Here’s what experts say
3·11 months agoYep, for these things to matter there has to be no end in sight until those that want the change get heard and taken seriously.
Bonus points if they are headed up by sympathetic and visible politicians and/or other public figures. A well spoken orator in the vein of MLK at a podium giving a loud united voice to these sorts of movements are what creates something non-violent that is really hard for those in power or those on the side lines that would otherwise support the movement to sweep it under the rug as a one off.

politics @lemmy.world•'Groundswell' for Kimmel return after 'cancel Disney+' blows up online: insider
17·11 months agoI don’t want to see Kimmel come back as if nothing happened. I want to see him find a new platform and farm the stupidity of Disney, Sinclair, etc for gold for the next few months. What Disney and co. did was not some stupid PR misstep, they let the mask slip on how easily they would fall in line behind a political pay master to keep him happy and in the process effectively violate the 1st amendment by giving the government a method of silencing speech. Which should be the kind of thing that burns the whole corporation to the ground and gets those in charge ostracized from polite society.
There should be no coming back for them from this.
I find that most people that romanticize this sort of middle of nowhere living tend to only consider it from the point of view of that time period in their lives when they are healthy and able to go years without needing convenient access to medical services.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex now want to SELL your personal dataEnglish
883·1 year agocontent being watched) on my device(s) and share that information with Plex’s advertising partners
That is a honey pot rights holders will be falling over themselves to pay Plex for access to once they hear about it.
Been telling anyone that would listen that they need to get out of Plex since they implemented that first iteration of trying to require you to sign into your own self hosted server with a Plex.tv account. They were telegraphing what direction they were going in with that kind of user hostile move.
Lots of responses about how it was easy to get around so no big deal (or worse that they liked it for some coping mechanism reason) and that nothing else was as easy and feature rich as Plex so it was worth it.
Well now a few years down the road from that they are now going to use that beach head on everyone’s Plex server they can to collect what is being watched and sell it to the highest bidder.

1·1 year agoIt is all running in a Proxmox cluster. 2 nodes have 62GB and one has 32GB. So while it is a good chunk. Not enough to bottleneck available RAM for other things in the cluster.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What webapps do you selfhost that aren't media/game servers?English
1·1 year agoIt is allotted 16GB out of the 62GB total that the host has. Which is the amount their docs call for in a 20 RPS or 1000 user scenario. Since I am the only one doing any commits or pulls, it does fine.
Does take its sweet time to reboot though. 😆

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What webapps do you selfhost that aren't media/game servers?English
4·1 year ago- Gitlab (version control)
- Bookstack (wiki)
- Joplin (not a webapp, but sync server)
- Semaphore (does all of my infra updating via Ansible)
- Uptime-Kuma (monitoring/alerting)
Been thinking about adding NextCloud mostly for the Google Docs/MS Office replacement at some point.
But honestly most of my stuff is just for me, my family prefers to to use whatever commercial thing is out there. So I tend to limit things to infrastructure type things that are of personal interest to me alone.
Or Disney. That mouse would shank his own grandmouse for a larger slice of cheese.
