To add to what you’re saying, the Weimar republic was not a really a democracy when Hitler got in power; it was already ruled by decree, with a reactionary minority (Hindenburg, Papen, Schleicher and al) aiming to ignore parliament and preserve the nobility.
In early 1933 a German observer might have hoped the authoritarian trend was just a temporary thing and the presidential clique would have to bend to the parliament eventually, since they were continually losing support.

I’m not American, it just happens that where I live everyone is quoting from Gramsci’s cultural hegemony at the moment. ^^
My point is you don’t need to leak to matter, or do anything illegal. The simple fact that powerful institutions are staffed with people who share your ideology is helpful to you. (I do have a lot of respect for leakers though)

If all people who share your opinions think like you then that institution will be left to your opponents.
Joining would be praxis. You don’t have to be a double agent or anything, just be a sympathetic voice in meetings and such. Simply making the institution politically diverse and preventing it from being an echo chamber of like-minded people is already making a change in the world.
As an example, in 1923 Hitler attempted a coup, but got off with an amazingly light eight months of prison. The reason is the judiciary at the time were quite sympathetic to him; they didn’t do anything illegal, yet had they been SPD supporters instead Hitler might have gotten a life sentence for his high treason.
My perspective is probably biased, but this lack of stability also means a chance for a modern legal and political framework, without the centuries of cruft and corruption and deadlock that feature in the American system.
There’s also a greater willingness to look into the fundamentals of the system and make changes if necessary, since it’s just seen as having been made by flawed human beings rather than the wise and enlightened “Founding Fathers”.
Biden won the highest turnout election in more than a century, and Al Gore’s win was stolen by the Bush clique. This is gross reframing or even reimagining of events to suit your narrative.
I’m just curious, could you go into more detail about what you mean by “capitalism”?
