it’s very much not empathy in the military. it’s teamwork. if the person never carries their share of the workload they’re just dragging you down. in most other workplaces that can be annoying to mildly dangerous. in the military, with everything that is involved in that, it can be exceptionally dangerous, for everyone on the boat or in your unit or whatever.
