Hypothetically, if there is a movement for real social change or some kind of revolution in the future it will need some amount of money. Having allies who have money and are willing to use it on the right causes is pretty important. Alienating them is not helpful.

While I think that’s inevitably true for some, I also think that sentiment gets exaggerated/overblown for others. Tankies are definitely prevalent, but there are also a lot of non tankie communists, and communists who will readily admit the failings of the dictators claiming to be communists throughout history. Genocide is an important issue for many of them, and is what pushed them away from Democrats most recently

Either way though, im not trying to argue any of these are morally correct or better than any other viewpoint. But I do think it’s undeniable that the left needs more unification globally if there is to be any meaningful resistance against the rise of fascism, and we have more in common with each other than we do with any of the oppressors in government now or the Nazis who support them

That’s pretty much it, yeah. It’s worth noting, there is a lot of animosity on here, particularly from .world, for .ml and .hexbear instances. Both are heavily communist, far left communities, and get a bad rep because they are known for not accommodating liberal or other not as left viewpoints. This was particularly heated around the election with disagreements about voting for liberals vs protest voting.

Fwiw I’m a strong believer if we are to organize against literal fascism we will need the liberal and the farther left to find enough common ground to work together. It’s a…work in progress on here.

At the very, very least, they are guilty of lopsided financial support and advertising dollars behind each candidate. The rest is largely supposition, though certainly COULD be true. Sometimes it’s easier to accept that than that the other voters are dumb. I have no idea which is actually true

Also, this isn’t exactly a fair statement since the primary was declared over before the majority of states even got to participate. Yes there is low turnout sometimes in states that get to participate, but there are many of us who would like to and can’t, hence feeling like it isn’t exactly a fair or representative process

Well if you want anything to get better you need to find common ground with those people and have a united front against facism. Even if you don’t like or agree with them.

The reality is, some people struggled to vote for Kamala, not because she is just as bad (she is obviously not) or because they were paid bad actor agents of the far right, but simply because, despite being the better of two options, she just wasn’t left enough to represent their views.

I’m not saying this is the correct approach or they did the right thing here. But the varying degrees of left constantly arguing with each other creates more and more room for far right fascists to trample us. You don’t have to agree with them, but you do need to organize with them to make any real change.

It’s that, or yell into the Lemmy void ineffectually at people who are closer aligned to you than the actual problem.

Maybe this is overly wishful thinking, but I do think there is enough data analysis on how people vote that it could be real: if a large body of people with a history of voting blue vote in this election and vote blue down the ballot but omit the president, or have a third party for the president instead, then that might actually send a message to the Democrats that they are fucking up their candidate selection badly, and make them at least marginally more likely to cater to the left when choosing candidates in the future.

That said I am not sure I can condone this tactic in good faith in this particular election given the alternative, but part of me feels like the right will perpetually have more and more abhorrent alternatives and there needs to be a line somewhere, and if it’s not at genocide then I honestly don’t know where it is.

No matter how you look at it all the options are bad. At least Tim being slightly left of Kamala shows Democrats slightly more willing to negotiate with disenfranchised left voters than chasing nebulous farther right independents. Not left enough to condemn genocide though so a very minor distinction
