11·1 year agoWasn’t this known? long before the election. All these things have been earmarked for privatization. Something about some guy who already kissed Trumps ass so he has dibs on government weather data so he can sell it back to you. I remember hearing about his.

History won’t tell the beginning of the Trump regime at that indeterminate point. It began when he rode down that piss yellow escalator.

2·1 year agoFinally someone else who gets it. I kinda hoped lemmy would have a crowd that would at least be able to talk about this calmly but it looks like it’s no less rabid about this topic than reddit.
They don’t have to agree with conservatives. They just have to go so far as establishment Democrat. The “moderate” who keeps kicking the can down the road. ‘Wait till midterms’. Wait till the next red line so we can move the red line to some time in the future.
The dream is not to become a billionaire. The dream is to become upper middle class. So you can sit in the middle and expound on virtues of those beneath you while reaping the benefits of those above.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•Make no mistake, my whole life has just been me watching america circle the drain.
1·1 year agoI think it delayed the inevitable. By the 90s, right wing American extremism was on the rise. 9/11 put up a facade of unity (as long as you didn’t look middle eastern). The right wing movements went quiet for 15 years. America returned to trajectory in 2016.

4·1 year agoI don’t find very much interesting about this conversation anymore. If it can even be called that. American politics is like scripted television drama. It’s quite fitting. Except it’s so predictable. It’s the same script on loop.

541·1 year agoThey aren’t even beginning a comeback until their Overton Window shifts closer to reality. Otherwise nobody isn’t going to recognize them as anything but descending uncontrollably into backwater hermit state as every nation scrambles to cut ties.
At most 30% of the voting age population understood the assignment trying to prevent all this. That’s certainly an indictment. The majority of the population has departed from reality. Perhaps many were never with it on account of being born too deep into the mythology of America.
The internet was supposed to expand peoples minds offering an antidote to such things as this. Instead it dug them deeper. It’s crazy. Sometimes I wonder what if all this is in no small part due simply to a consequence of reactionaries getting online and seeing too much of the world. Seeing 7 billion kinds of diversity of humanity around the world beaming through their smartphone caused their brains to short circuit. Deciding that being a paranoid hermit state is better than being a nation of the world.

13·1 year agoThe first administration fucked over farmers with tariffs and then bailed them out. Trillions of dollars are being grifted to rich. They’ll chip in a few meager billions to farmers again.

politics @lemmy.world•Opinion: Brace yourselves: whatever crazy, awful things Trump may have done to date, it’s only going to get worse
1·2 years agoI’ll be the one to say it. We have been living in good times. The internet has the vocal crowd of naysayers. I believe they are signal boosted by “the algorithms” sowing the discontent bubble. That’s why there hasn’t been much counter-movement. Enough people are still too comfortable.
And you all can spare me the belligerent replies about how this or that sucks for whoever or whatever. That doesn’t strike the fact that things are good for enough people such that there isn’t mass breakdowns of social order.
It’s actually kind of crazy how the system keeps bending yet nothing has completely snapped. We’re not even at Occupy Wall Street level.

politics @lemmy.world•I’m a Federal Worker. You Have No Idea the Irreversible Damage Elon Musk Is Doing.
131·2 years agoPeople are still thinking in 20th century. The 21st century tech oligarchs are more powerful than nations. They control digital infrastructure. The ones who own social platforms can incite civil unrest. They control the algorithmic knobs of the population.
It’s literally in your face how obvious it is. Musk has Trump cowering at the Resolute desk. The most powerful seat in the world.
I think people must be in denial. Trying to justify with some other reasonings other than what is. Musk isn’t an asset. It isn’t a side business. He’s taken over the world superpower. Nation states aren’t the highest theater anymore. It’s tech oligarchs.

politics @lemmy.world•'A Complete Takeover': New Trump Order Entrenches Musk-Led 'Shadow Government'.
181·2 years agoThere isn’t a 4-8 back and forth cycle anymore. This paradigm no longer exists because the GOP has abdicated. It took the two parties to agree on this unwritten understanding.
The Dems are continuing to muddle around under the guise that a bygone era of decorum still exists… That maybe the old Republican party will come back. After each Dem term, MAGA will continue to do whatever the fuck they’re doing with reckless abandon. They know the Dems are cucked. One or both disappears as a party. We’re past that point for the GOP as it’s clear MAGA isn’t an aberration of 2016. So it must be the Dems re-invent themselves as something that can actually challenge MAGA.
This isn’t just a setback for Democrats. This needs to be a realization that the Dems are no longer a viable party. Sure on paper and in a bottle they are indeed a political party. Not one that is going to rise to the challenges.
People have been wondering if the party will be listless if Trump dies. Maybe that’s when MAGA finally reverts to the old Republicans. It’s clear now it won’t. They’ll elect a puppet president. The real president will be Musk or who ever else manages to worm their way in.
