  • Well, Vance was right about one thing. And I suspect most of Lemmy agrees, since no one posted about it yesterday, and we’re not supposed to agree with anything fascists say.

He said no one really likes turkey, no one cares about cooking turkey except on Thanksgiving because it’s expected of them. For poultry, chicken is superior.

Couldn’t agree more. I think it’s high time we stop doing things simply because they’re expected, if we don’t actually like them.

My family doesn’t do a whole turkey. We do a turkey breast, but we also do ham and barbecue. People have a choice. The best of the turkey, plus pork. We even had pot roast yesterday, so beef as well.

  • If I were a Republican, I would want Trump to veto it. Simply because he has nothing to lose if Congress does have the votes to overturn a presidential veto. The Republicans that voted for the release look good and it helps their numbers. Trump isn’t getting re-elected anyway, that’s why he’s digging so hard. It’s actually a smart move for anyone in the party who isn’t in the Epstein files. The idea is that those who are will quietly go away, and as for Trump, he’s not going to get impeached or anything, because Congress doesn’t have the votes, and if enough Republicans fought for the release of the files, they should do well next year against their Democrat challengers. Republicans keep the majority, no impeachment. That’s probably the game plan.

  • She’s right.

I thought we were ready for a Black president, and maybe some of the country was. Where I was living at the time, a white man was okay working side by side with a Black man. He’d call him brother, they’d eat at each other’s places, their wives would hang out, their kids would play together… I thought racism was mostly a memory. People were even fine with a Black boss. But when it came to a Black president, they just couldn’t cope.

If these people can’t see past skin colour, they definitely won’t see past gender. For these people, the First Gentleman would be the “real” president. They would not respect her and, at most, would say she’s just the spokesman for the real president. A lot of people liked Michelle Obama, but not because she’s Michelle Obama, but because she’s Mrs Barack Obama. They don’t care what she thinks or knows, they just expect that she’s speaking for him. And, I think, in 8 years, we saw that she was her own person, but a lot of people couldn’t see it.

I wonder if she’s interested in running. I think Michelle Obama would poll better than Kamala Harris. I have a feeling she’s done with politics, though, if she were ever really interested.

  • I don’t think anyone needs to import pasta from Italy, is my point.

Anyone who doesn’t have the time or the resources to import expensive pasta is probably just using store brand anyway.

I use store brand and it’s fine. I think it’s more important to know how to prepare pasta than to use fancy imported pasta for bragging rights.

Anyway, I also use the whole grain pasta for health reasons, so you probably don’t care how I prepare my pasta. It’s beside the point, though. (If anyone does care how I prepare my pasta, I boil it to around 80% of al dente, where it’s still inedible/not soft enough, and I let it cook the rest of the way in the sauce, that way it absorbs some of the sauce, getting some of its flavour from the sauce. This is especially important with the whole grain pasta as some will tell you it doesn’t taste as good. I prefer the taste, but I like it even more when it’s absorbed some sauce. And it’s still al dente in my bowl.)

  • Sounds like they’re going after imported pasta.

I actually support this. There’s no reason pasta can’t be made anywhere. It’s a very basic thing to make, if you have the right tool. Even before the tools, people were making them at home, and in quantities you need at home, that’s fine. But there’s no great reason why American companies can’t combine flour and egg and make some pasta.

I don’t think I’ve ever imported pasta from Italy. Why would I? It’s the same thing. And I’ve never been rich. Let the people who are willing to pay for pasta imported from Italy pay a little more. They won’t mind. Anyone who does mind can just buy American made pasta. It’s the same thing.

  • I get it. He’s a business owner same an immigrant who, ostensibly, did it the legal way. So he’s got a lot of pride. Person like that trusts Trump because he feels like he’s the kind of person Trump looks out for. The marketing and all that. He bought a product, hook line and sinker. Gobbled up the lies about how “Kamala” was gonna take his business or whatever.

Problem is, the reality the rest of us saw. Trump only cares about billionaires he owes favors to. This guy thought he was in, but he was never in. Thought he’d be living large, but he’s paying large like the rest of us. And learning the hard way that Trump hates immigrants, legal or otherwise.

Best case scenario, he teaches other people, helps turn the Sunshine State or at least his local community. You could call this guy a fool and you wouldn’t be wrong. Better to see him as a potential opportunity for change.

  • What’s sad is his parents made his middle name James, like they had hope for him to be a beacon for humanity… as opposed to oppression.

Him not removing/changing the James part of his name means he either didn’t care or was trying to be ironic. Or completely missed the point of Star Trek. Or likely had never watched an episode of the original Star Trek. Jim Kirk is known for being a badass, like Sisko, but Kirk is easily as thoughtful as Picard. But that isn’t what he’s known for.
