I genuinely just want a basic car. No frills. No nav, no infotainment, just a basic radio with Bluetooth. I don’t want lane assist, or for the car to have radar when parking telling me how close I am to the drive thru window.

Those emergency powers should then need to be renewed by congress in the same supermajority manner no later than 90 days after the previous expiration date and no earlier than 60 days after the previous expiration date.
Failing to renew an emergency strips the president of any emergency powers.
This would reverse the current system which requires a vote by congress to overrule the presidents emergency. It is not onerous to assemble congress if there are an actual emergency.

Now, most of the other things you discussed would be major hurdles. It also would be seen as an escalation that Illinois was planning for a clash with National Troops.
It probably could be done under the pretense that the state guard needs more capacity to handle state emergencies while it’s national guard troops have been federalized.
What’s been interesting is that the “mission” the Federal Government has been tasking these units with are designed to pass the smell test. “Protect federal buildings and federal agents.” It’s a guise that makes the individuals objection to their mission orders harder to be considered illegal. It’s not “arrest protestors” or “detain illegals.”

Cars make noises for fucking everything now. I’m not against rear view cameras on the surface. But mandating things like that also mean mandating a screen in the car, usually the infotainment system. And I prefer cars without screens.
Any single thing, I’m not particularly against. But it’s been a cumulative effect where there are too many things where I can’t make a decision on how an object I bought and own behaves.
It’s shit like not letting me, as a passenger, use half the damn infotainment because the vehicle is in motion.
