He was the start of truly aggressive, unrelenting, “whatever it takes to win” republicanism in the modern era. They got wind of a sex scandal, and absolutely blew it up as the biggest thing to ever happen. They controlled the narrative and had all of America clutching its collective pearls. Then, they hauled him into one of these dog-and-pony-show hearings, and set the trap. Bill idiotically walked right into it, perjuring himself in what was really a useless stunt. This gave the Gingrich Gang all the ammo they needed to force an impeachment vote and destroy the Democratic Party for generations. So, it’s not that Bill is singularly responsible for the current shit show, but his hubris and idiocy made the downfall possible.
