If you have a country that’s below it’s replacement rate then you need net positive immigration to compensate for this. Likewise if your above replacement rate and have problems with overpopulation then you need net negative immigration. This is fairly straightforward demographics and economics. Being too far below replacement rate without immigration leads to an aging population, and even countries like China which used to have serious overpopulation issues can fall fowl of this. Aging population is the root of a lot of economic and cultural issues. Saying immigration is bad is not just wrong, it’s the exact opposite of what the situation calls for in most European nations, the USA, Japan, and South Korea.

American Democrats aren’t a good example here as they aren’t a leftist party, they are centrist. Generally though I get what you are saying.
Anyone who supports communism is an extremist relative to the rest of society. At least this is the case in the whole of USA and Europe.
You had me until you started shit talking Linux like that. WiFi used to be an issue on Linux systems, but it hasn’t been a major issue for like an entire decade now. WiFi on Linux pretty much just works outside of libre only distros, or using Linux distro versions older than your hardware. Now WiFi on FreeBSD is still a bit of an issue, which is entirely there own fault.
Not with that attitude you can’t!
You think that Labour are hard left? They literally kicked out all the actual communists and other far left people years ago. I don’t think you have ever seen what real far-left organizations look like or believe - I actually used to be a member of one some time ago if you wanted to ask. You’re either misinformed or a lot further right than you claim. It doesn’t surprise me people are applying that label to you given what you have just come out with.
While I agree in principle I don’t think that would necessarily change the results in this case as labour was the best mainstream option in that case. The conservatives had messed up badly and lost public confidence, bleeding votes to both Labour and Reform.
FreeTube breaks regularly and doesn’t have support for higher resolutions.
You’re the one making an argument here. So you’re the one who should be doing research. Yet it seems I’ve done more research than you in this conversation.
My views are based on data from my own country. If that situation is that bad in Los Estados Unidos then leave. In my country the average lecturer salary is a bit over £40k per year which is above the average UK salary for all age groups. That again is for lecturers which are not the same as professors.
You still haven’t said what their salary actually is, just vaguely talked about hourly rates. Shouldn’t most lectures be full time employees? Are you saying most lectures aren’t full time in your country?
Edit: In the UK we actually have a dedicated visa for people with certain skills and qualifications like your academics. So if you wanted to move here you probably could: https://www.gov.uk/global-talent-researcher-academic
If this is Los Estados Unidos then it’s not surprising something is wrong. I still sincerely doubt what these guys are saying though. I suspect a lot of them either mismanaged their money badly or are just straight up lying. Nobody would work in academia in that country if things were that bad at every University.
See this actually makes sense, but it is also entirely their own fault. You should only ever do a PhD if you’re getting paid to do it by being sponsored by a company or from a scholarship fund. That’s how I ended up doing my PhD. The kinds of people taking our loans to become a PhD probably shouldn’t be doing a PhD in the first place. It’s not like an undergraduate degree.
I am telling you that even people further down in the hierarchy make good money. Either your academics are lying to you (which wouldn’t suprise me people are fucking greedy) or something has gone very wrong in your country. If we are talking about American it’s probably both of those things.
Yes except lecturers also make bank.
The only people not making good money are the PhD students who also teach. Even then most of us I think get more money than the undergraduates.
Even I as a student get something like £19,000 a year plus £40 per hour teaching rate for any classes I teach.
Either these people are manipulating you or there is something very wrong with academia in your country. Luckily moving countries is quite easy for academics as many Universities will hire foreign staff and there are often immigration laws in place for these kinds of people.
In what world or country are professors not making enough to afford somewhere to live? In my country professors make good money despite the fact that tenure doesn’t really exist here. It’s one of the highest ranks you can have in academia above lecturer, senior lecturer, and reader.
You still have plenty of people who are anti-monarchy in the UK. We also all know that the king is only a figurehead. It’s not really a great solution to be honest.

0·2 years agoI’d walk away because I’m pretty sure my ears would be ringing, thankfully, we are on the internet, and we can discuss things, with words. Wanna give it a shot?
What do you think we have been doing this whole time exactly?
Appeal to age isn’t going to work here. Especially given I have seen how some people older than me choose to behave, and all the questionable choices they make. Likewise I have seen people significantly younger who are both smarter, and more mature than I am.
If you really want to talk about age and maturity then I would say you are behaving like a 16 year old at best, and an annoying one at that. I want to believe that you aren’t normally like this, I really do, so why do you keep giving me reasons to doubt that?

0·2 years agoThis is exactly why this couldn’t be done online. People behave very differently online than they do in person. For one you probably wouldn’t say half the things you have said here. Second you would probably have realized by now I am not a physical threat unless I am in actual danger, which chances are neither are you. To quote a song: “some people fail to realize that real life and internet are not the same”. I also don’t know you at all aside from what I have seen today, nor do I know the kind of people you hang out with, or what emotions you are feeling. Since I don’t have that context I can’t really tell what the problem here is. It is entirely possible you just aren’t a reasonable person in general, and you are best off being avoided, but I am hoping that isn’t the case.
My guess is there is some kind of issue here on your end, that could probably be resolved quite quickly over some pints. Instead we are arguing over something incredibly trivial for longer than is necessary without any really good reasons that I can see. My guess is someone hurt your feelings either in this comment section or in real life, and because you can’t process that over the Internet you are instead being belligerent.
Also I find it funny that you, the one who is being both unreasonable and personally insulting, accuse me of not having any friends. If anyone is going to push people away in this discussion it’s going to be you. You are repeatedly trying the patience of people here including me for no good reason.

0·2 years agoThat was not a threat of physical violence. I am saying either me and my friends talk you back into being a reasonable human again, or we cut you out completely. I don’t think giving someone a concussion is a good way to make them see reason weirdly enough. It’s telling though that you think that it is.
Please go sniff some ketamine, have a nap, or smoke a joint or do whatever you have to do to reset your brain because clearly something isn’t working right up there.

I mean this is full of stuff that dosen’t pass the sniff test.
Modern society has a lot more than just agricultural workers, and in western countries much of the food is imported anyway which I am not sure you have accounted for. If you want modern standards of living your going to need a lot more workers than that.
As for the whole thing of us working for rich people. You are exactly right that they have the most money. That doesn’t mean they actually spend all that on themselves, and it certainly doesn’t mean they consume the lions share of physical goods requiring work for their personal pleasure. If you look at someone like Elon for example, as evil as they are most of the money they spend will be in investments to public companies. Things like the development of SpaceX rockets, new electric cars, data centers to push AI, and so on. Very little of that is spent on their personal needs. Still way more than we could ever afford, none of us are getting rides in private jets, but since there are only so few people at that level it doesn’t add up to much in the scheme of things. Even if we got rid of Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and so forth we would still have to fund R&D somehow, and all those scientists and engineers still want to be paid or taken care of. Things could potentially be made more efficient by combining the efforts of some of these companies, but that doesn’t mean you ask scientists to go home, it just means innovation happens that much faster. Heck sometimes competition can be good for innovation, so you might still keep around competing teams even if they are all technically funded by the same government or public institution.
If anything we might need to work harder for a time after capitalism to repair the damage done to people and the planet. Certainly all oil and gas infrastructure needs to be replaced, and that means lots of new stuff needs to be built and research needs to be done at break neck pace. Ending economic exploitation doesn’t magically fix everything that’s wrong with the world, it would only be step 1.
It’s also unlikely that capitalism is going away soon anyway, so this is all moot. It is after all the most efficient system we have built to date, even if it’s crazy bad in some areas, and coming up with something to replace it that wouldn’t just be worse is a tall order. Many have died trying.
