  • You’re looking at it purely from a present-day perspective. Just because the pool of available workers is large enough today to provide for everybody doesn’t mean that it will be fifty years into the future. It’s not about “infinite growth” it’s about providing a consistent standard of living and a fair generational contract that doesn’t place an undue burden on future generations.

Unless you expect people to work until they drop dead it’s a crisis regardless of the economic system, especially coupled with the increases in life expectancy. You have fewer and fewer people of working age who have to provide for and take care of more and more old people for longer and longer. Even if you eliminate profit motives, you’re placing an outsized burden on younger generations.

Two bad things can be true at the same time.

Israel is currently engaged in ethnic cleansings in Gaza and the West Bank.

    True.

Many of Israel’s neighbours would “drive the Jews into the sea” if they ever got the chance.

    Also true.

The answer to genocide is not inviting more genocide.

And yes, nukes are effective as a deterrent. Look at how reluctant the West is to support Ukraine against a genocidal invasion because of Russia’s repeated nuclear threats. There’s no way any country is going to give up its nuclear weapons after Ukraine showed just how little security guarantees from the great powers are actually worth.

  • That’s just a No true Scotsman argument. Their (alleged) end goal was the creation of a classless, stateless communist society. They haven’t achieved that, and they wouldn’t have claimed to have achieved that. But they would’ve claimed that their crimes were a necessary step towards that goal. You can’t just brush aside the people most associated with the “far left” label, regardless of whether or not you personally feel like they are “undeserving” of it.

  • Our conservatives aren’t literal Nazis. And yeah, the actual literal Nazis at 20% is horrifying but it’s not like they’re going to be part of the government. It’s going to be a coalition between the conservatives from the Union and the allegedly social democratic Social Democratic Party. If there’s majority for that they’ll add the vaguely progressive Greens to the mix.

Meanwhile the US has turned itself into a Nazi broligarchy.

We can still be smug. Sorry America.

Edit: and yes, this post is heavy on copium.

Cut the gendered slurs. Those are not a good look.

But to give an actual reply to your… expressed views, no. Neoliberalism, deregulation and privatisation is an issue in Germany, but there’s still a significant difference between Germany and the United States. And if you had paid any attention at all you’d know that German policy is primarily a policy of national self-interest, and that Germany doesn’t follow America blindly. German and American interests just happen to be broadly aligned (happened to be, anyway, considering the new US administration seems more interested in conflict with Germany and Germany’s allies).

Beyond that, most capitalist countries other than the United States have some form of universal healthcare system, I’ve just used Germany as an example because Germany was used as a point of comparison by someone else.

  • Yes, because ethnic cleansing famously doesn’t cause loss of life. And even if you could somehow relocate millions of Gazans safely to a country that’s willing and capable to accept them (of which there are none because the Arab nations aren’t as much pro-Palestine as they are anti-Israel, one of the biggest mass murders of Palestinians was committed by Jordan) forcibly relocating people for a landgrab is still a crime against humanity. Even if it’s not technically “genocide.” Though considering the almost guaranteed loss of cultural heritage and consciousness calling cultural genocide would not be inappropriate in the slightest.

For fuck’s sake, I’m as pro-Israel as you can get and that’s not something I can defend. It’s completely inhumane. It’s also exactly what I expected from a Trump presidency.
