It’s bullshit but it’s business, I suppose. In the past, customers have complained because colleagues arrived in a car from a higher status competitor brand.

Can you really get rid of it by now? Who’d buy it? Most people can’t just throw away a car, even if it’s associated with a fascist.

Talked about that with my boss recently. He drives a Tesla (has been for a few years) and he says, while he’d like to replace it with something less controversial (besides his personal opinions, also because some of our customers are large German car manufacturers and they do have strong opinions) but, he says, there’s no comparable electric car in a comparable price range (of what you’d get for a 3 or 4 year old model Y) and business isn’t doing so well that he could afford sinking money into something that drives as well and as far on a charge, so for now he’ll have to keep his Tesla and an eye open for a good deal on something better.

So I’d say, if you bought a Tesla within the last year or so, you should’ve known better. If you bought one some time before and want to get rid of it, it’s not always that easy, if you actually need a good car to replace it with.

Not having to pay for hardware transcoding/tonemapping is the biggest „selling“point for Jellyfin. I used to have plex before. It worked well but I didn’t want to pay 100€ for transcoding. Never tried emby for the very same reason.

The glasses part sounds similar to Germany. I‘m pretty near sighted (-4.25-ish diopters) and without glasses I‘m more or less useless. Can’t focus on things beyond like 20cm from my face. Can’t read shit that isn’t either that close or ginormous.

According to German public insurance, I’m not blind enough for them to subsidize my glasses, let alone pay for them outright.

To be fair, you can get glasses somewhat cheaply for sub 100€ if you’re not too picky about frames or high quality lenses with good coating but still. At least that much should be covered by insurance at the point where you aren’t allowed to operate a vehicle without glasses anymore, imo.

Also, I don’t wanna shit on German public insurance too much because so far I’ve never had to pay a penny for any doctor’s appointment and necessary medications have been free as well. Also, mental health is covered, at least when it’s deemed necessary aka you‘ve been diagnosed with a mental illness, so maybe the commenter above isn’t from here.

I mean, the idea is, that the tarriffed stuff becomes less attractive compared to the non-tarriffed stuff due to the higher price, so less people will buy it and instead the nationally produced alternatives thus strengthening the national economy and and weakening the tarriffed ones.

Of course that can only work with stuff that has nationally produced (or at least non-tarriffed) alternatives.

I like, that im Finland, traffic fines are based on your income, so that if your poor, it stings but if your rich, it’ll also sting. The largest fine for speeding was over 120k Euros.

The point isn’t that we shouldn’t strive to improve those points but that it’s utopic. Accidents happen. Ectopic pregnancies, etc. can’t be solved by medication. And even if everybody who doesn’t want kids was on birth control, they don’t work 100% of the time. Also, humans are stupid so someone will forget or skip birth control for the thrill of it. And as much as I‘d like for rape not to be something that happens, humans are also assholes and while you might be able to reduce that, you can’t eliminate that entirely without mind controlling everybody.

Solving this, if it’s not completely impossible, might as well be.

That isn’t to say that we shouldn’t work on this. There’s always room to improve and ideally no one who wants to have a baby should have to lose it and no one who doesn’t want a child should need abortion to avoid having one. However, there should always be the possibility because there will always be some cases, even if they’re extremely rare. Life’s messy and humans are unpredictable.
