this is the selfhosting comm. I’m willing to bet that virtually ever person here who has a home server of some kind, has a reverse proxy or VPN set up that they could access Jellyfin from.

what about it? anyone who hosts a Jellyfin server probably already has a reverse proxy set up. if not, then that is another 2min setup required, if you don’t know what you’re doing.

it’s not a hassle. just add a reverse proxy and you’re set. the setup for that takes less time than setting up Jellyfin.

I dunno what you were doing wrong, but Jellyfin is a strong alternative to Plex that has feature parity. The only reason to use Plex over Jellyfin is if you want the streaming channels Plex has. Especially since many of the features Plex has are locked behind a paywall, whereas on Jellyfin they are free.

uh, if you can’t figure those things out then you absolutely should not be self-hosting until you can. those are the basic first steps a self-hoster takes, and if you somehow get them wrong you can expose yourself to some serious bad actors out there that will definitely exploit your setup and steal whatever data they can.

you see it as gatekeeping, and it is, but everyone here recognizes that if you fuck this up, you will get pwned. this isn’t a hobby you can just jump into without learning anything first. there are real consequences to messing up, and depending on what data you have accessed by a malicious actor, it could have lasting damage on your life.

wut the fuck. I use Jellyfin because I don’t want to have to do shit by hand. I fucking click the grab button in Jellyseer and then press play. if I wanted harder than that, I wouldn’t bother setting up a media server in the first place.

Well, if what you’re looking for is not on Readarr, there’s Kapowarr. I haven’t tried it though because I use Tachiyomi on mobile and haven’t bothered to switch to a selfhosted option yet because that’s been working fine. There’s also some other projects, but the ones I looked at back when I was searching hadn’t been updated in years, and I imagine that hasn’t suddenly changed recently.

I’ve never once had anything go wrong with Unraid. But even if I did, it’s pretty painless to restore a backup since the OS is on a USB drive and isn’t very big.

It’s less hassle than maintaining my homelab was when I used Ubuntu server. Just because I can do it the “hard way”, doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy easy mode and not having to do much of anything.

They give you exactly what they promise with zero enshitification. It’s a solid product and was worth it to me to buy, just for the convenience.

Ah, I see what you mean now. Something like that would be nice, but I don’t think it would work for a lot of people. I know I’m pretty particular about the stuff I download, and I doubt a community maintained list would tick the boxes I want. Especially since a lot of people seem to use separate instances of Sonarr for shows and animes, and I combine them into a single one, and then assign formats and libraries accordingly using Jellyseer so that my family can request media without effort.

A lot of people don’t like the scene releases. They’re usually of lower quality compared to the best of what’s available. If you use the Scene custom format from TRaSH guides, it filters out the LQ scene groups like SucessfulCrab.

The functionality is in the apps. That’s why TRaSH guides work.

You’re not supposed to just use Sonarr/Radarr without customizing your filters first. It’s also not too hard to make your own, if you don’t want to use the TRaSH formats.

The TRaSH Guides should block those. They have SuccessfulCrab in one of the Scene formats. IDK about ELiTE, but you could add them into the format as well to filter them. I followed the guides and set up a single Sonarr/Radarr to fetch both anime and normal shows/movies, and I don’t have any problems with getting bad quality stuff. I don’t think it’s pulled something I didn’t like anytime in the last couple of years since I turned it on.
