The last time I looked at time I missed something. I want to use my existing chime and have it also use that power supply as a power source. Turns out the battery one does that! I missed that months ago! I was going to get a Ring Pro or whatever to get it to do that! This is so much better! Moving up the todo list now!

1·1 year agoThe problem with the combo ones is that CO is heavy and goes the the ground and smoke rises with heat. So CO alarms should be low and smoke alarms high.

3·1 year agoI picked up an Intel N100 mini PC and put Bazzite on it. Regular Bazzite instead of the HTPC version that goes to game mode on boot. It works great as a client! I can directly play most everything and it’s very snappy. I use an Logitech wireless keyboard with a trackpad to control it from the couch. It gets the job done.

1·1 year agoI duct taped together some API calls and a config file to get some smart playlist features. I find it very helpful for the slow pace I listen to some podcasts. I have it set up to put daily and weekly episodes first and then serials. Super niche , but it’s just how I like to listen to my podcasts. https://github.com/TunaLobster/PyAutoABSPlaylist

9·2 years agoProxmox can be a bit of a bear to setup. The documentation is not very approachable for new users. It uses a lot of terms without definition which is a deadly sin of technical writing IMO. Guides for getting an Ubuntu Server VM setup vary wildly and often recommend outdated settings.
I’m totally on board with using it though. It eliminates the need to start from scratch when migrating to newer hardware.
Set up your favorite Linux server distro and then go ham on setting up docker (dockge is a great tool to introduce compose).

11·2 years agoThat’s because California (like the majority of other states) assigns all of their EC votes to the winner of the popular vote within state. Only Nebraska and Maine split their delegates right now.
The popular vote compact is not in effect yet. They don’t have the 270 votes needed to do it. The last sentence of the first paragraph in the Wikipedia article you linked to says so.

If one of them could get to the 5% popular vote…yada yada. Yeah I know. 2016 was the closest they got in a long time. I voted 3rd party then because I’m in a deeply red state so it wasn’t a throw away vote or preventing the Dems from winning. They didn’t get there. I’m am very convinced at this point you must fix the voting system before 3rd parties have any viability. FPTP is outdated at this point and the added layer of the EC is doing more harm than good now. It was a good idea for a different time, but today is different and the system should evolve. RCV/IRV has shown very clear benefits to enable more than 2 options to be viable on a ballot.

I did it purely so I could fully back up my server VM and move it to new hardware when I wanted to upgrade. I just have to install Proxmox, attach the NAS, and pull the VM backup. And just like that everything is back to running just as it was before the upgrade! Now just faster and more energy efficient!
