What’s wrong in disliking the aim of the CCP for gaining world dominance?
After the US is currently deconstructing their power in science and research leaving a big (financial) gap, we should not allow a single country to become the word dominating force again.
The Chinese surveillance apparatus extends to German universities: according to research by CORRECTIV and Deutsche Welle, students from China sign contracts that oblige them to be obedient and loyal to the state. The embassy wants to know about every step they take. Breach of contract can result in severe penalties.
China’s regime wants to build a “world-class military”. But it needs expertise. To this end, Chinese military facilities are cooperating en masse with European researchers. Top German research is particularly in demand. This is shown by research by CORRECTIV, Follow the Money and nine other international media. Around 300 scientific papers prove this: Germany is becoming a willing helper to China’s rulers.
The Technical University of Munich is at the centre of a suspected new espionage case: according to CORRECTIV information, the public prosecutor’s office is investigating a student of Chinese origin. She is suspected of having passed on official secrets.
Edit: In my opinion, it’s not racist to say, that the CCP follows their interest in sending PhD students abroad for transfer of knowledge. That’s a legitimate aim. China wants to become #1 in research, technology and economic power. We, the west, should just be aware of that.
Research is most fruitful when international exchange is happening. It’s becoming problematic, when this yields to espionage of e.g. military relevant secrets, which are confidential for reason.
I did not state that all Chinese students are doing espionage, i.e. illegally transfer of confidential/secret knowledge, just that China, i.e. the CCP, sends PhD students abroad to reach their aim in becoming #1.
