Amen. Minimum wage was a good start, but it’s become a mere virtue signal for labor rights. I have no reason to believe a maximum wage wouldn’t function similarly. Furthermore, nominal sums are pretty meaningless with currency anyway. Inflation makes them irrelevant pretty quickly. Progressive tax and social subsidy is what works, historically.

I feel like it’s more a reflection of their base. Not all these politicians are stupid. Many have CVs showing very high functioning, sometimes even in academics. I think this is more about how stupid they think their base is.

Granted a lot of it is them acting outside of their expertise. Ben Carson was a good example. Definitely not a stupid guy but looney tunes crazy as a politician because he was acting outside his field.

No debate about destroying the infrastructure that was upholding slavery. If anything, I think the slaves should have gotten all the assets of their former masters and the US should have gone through with reconstruction.

There are places where a couple hundred thousand USD will buy citizenship and a really nice home, affording one a place among the landed gentry, and less subject to the negative aspects of the totalitarianism. You’d just have to praise the leader when questioned. If people in the US are going to have to do that for a $450k house and barely enough wage to afford it while having to praise the leader, it makes other options start looking more appealing. Having said that, feudal lords don’t like economically mobile serfs, so wages will continue to diverge from GDP per capita until workers own nothing and can’t leave.
