  • Sorry, like always, when I write “you” I mean the ethereal concept of a human reader, not you personally. Pretty sure many here use tiktok though, made a comment about it the other day how adults dancing for kids on there a creepy, and if the downdoot R*ddit system here is any indicator, people did NOT like that one bit lmao.

  • And I can’t exactly throw away my phone because of work.

I hear that all the time. Does your work DEMAND of you to doom scroll TikTok while on the shitter? Or just that you are reachable via phone and/or text? If it’s the latter a Nokia phone does the job and does it better too.

But at least AI slop is easy as shit to see

    For you, and for now.

Reliance on AI obliterates your ability to solve problems. We have an extreme competency crisis right now mostly because especially young people find themselves utterly helpless without their pocket rectangle and easily overwhelmed. It also convinces you algorithmic search results and AI responses curated by companies are “reality”. Turning people trusting these technologies into sedated and borderline mindless consumer cattle.

Great video on the topic by technology connections: https://youtu.be/QEJpZjg8GuA

  • Russia and China are stepping up their demoralization efforts.

After disrupting and perhaps permanently crippling the US by helping to get Trump elected, the next step is of course to now support the other side so we do the funny civil war happening. Especially China is very interested in this for obvious reasons. Social media is getting swamped again with AI slop and bots en masse if the recent Lemmy posts are any indicator. Throw away your mobile phone. Barring that, delete all social media you participate in for more than 10 minutes a day. It does not “connect” you with anyone, it destroys you!

  • Also non-american here who lives in America now though. I was also confused about the backlash to voter ID back then (this is a VERY old issue) as in Germany you are required to show your ID when voting.

It has been explained to me that most Americans do not have ANY form of identification other than their drivers license. There is no personal ID you are required to possess like in Germany. The vast majority of Americans does not have, nor will ever have, a passport. Driver’s licenses are cheaper to obtain than in Europe, but you still have to provide a host of documents many poorer people might not be able to provide + you need to pass a driver’s test of course to get it. There are a lot of people who for one reason or another can not do that.

In other words, if you don’t pass a driver’s test in the US, you might as well not exist. There is still the “social security number”, but that one is NOT MEANT to be a form of identification, plus immigrants without citizenship can also obtain them (I should know, I have one). I don’t think a common driver’s license counts for voter ID’s purposes under that proposal, so the way to identifying yourself as a citizen is even more limited. There is a REAL ID program in some states, but not others. You also get that from the DMV, which again is just the motor vehicle office. It’s really fucked up here. All of it. A solution would be to require citizen ID’s like its done in Europe, but the government doesn’t want to pay for that and Americans are usually against something like that (“government overreach wah wah what’s next, chips in my skin???”). So…hm.

  • Not saying you’re automatically wrong, but that is 36 days old, which is 5 years in Trump years. A lot more people have been fired since then. More telling, Republicans just recently prevented a snap election in an usually safe district for fears their party might lose it. Even if Trump’s personal approval is high (and 44% is not exactly convincing either), the GOP as a whole seems in deep trouble.

Meh. This meme is straight up lifted from /pol/, and people there usually go “I voted for this EXACTLY” when news break about how foreigners are abducted from streets and Vance is preparing for an ideological war with Europe.

“Moderates” and old geezer Republicans fell for his lies (again), big surprise. You won’t find them here. The people who made this meme (originally about Israel by the way) only lament how Trump has still not publicly executed Obama and Pelosi.

Well, you can’t vote fascists out, but historically speaking they’ve always been voted IN. Authoritarianism is always a degeneration of liberalism. When people get fat and lazy, shit like this happens. Weak men creating hard times ect.
