Sorry to anyone I didn’t DM goodbye. I sorted people very ‘ad hoc’, and my own spotty focus and memory didn’t help. I recognized a lot of users in my time on here, and most of you I enjoyed very much. I think, in particular, I forgot some Slrpnk users.
Good luck, going forward. o7

95·10 months agoI mean, the Saudis have killed far more than just one journalist.
But yes, the double standard is appalling. For that matter, that we align ourselves with either, much less fucking both, is horrific.

82·10 months agoI feel like they need a “Chinese Trump” to open some eyes, kinda like it has for the US. Like, some head of state that’s really sloppy and loud.
If it happens, they’ll react just like Trump supporters do here.
None of it matters. Oftentimes, they admire the stupidity.

173·10 months agoBut a large part of the argument made by Marx involves the existence of a bourgeois revolution to bring bourgeois democracy, which then brings about the conditions necessary for a proletarian revolution, both in the creation of a strong proletariat (by the development of capitalism) and the development of class consciousness (by the contradictions inherent in bourgeois democracy and the activity of the proletariat themselves within it).
I would argue that the entire “Capitalist dictatorship trying to develop capital but painted red” doesn’t ‘get’ Marx any more than “Anti-capitalist dictatorship trying to develop capital.” You can argue that the capitalist dictatorship is ‘closer’ to the development outlined by Marx, but by a Marxist analysis, what they’re doing is setting up the conditions for a bourgeois revolution.
And quite clearly, the current PRC is not interested in assisting a bourgeois revolution in overthrowing them. Few governments are interested in their own destruction.

No, no, me and my friends will be totally different, as long as we get absolute power to reshape society in our image! Nothing will go wrong this time!"

2612·10 months agoMy ‘favorite’ is when people who are Very Definitely Not MLs (or worse, professedly anarchists) who aggressively slobber on the PRC’s boots and celebrate things like USAID being ended and hundreds of thousands of people dying because of it, because “USA bad, China good!”
Don’t worry, BAD CAMP brings only “tarrifs, sanctions, neocolonialism, and demands” while GOOD CAMP brings “investment, stability, and economic opportunity”

Hate Israel all you want, rightfully so, but the comparison with Nazi Germany is historically inaccurate and politically wrong. Israel is a democracy and not an authoritarian dictatorship.
“Israel is a democracy”
Okay, so was 1870s America, yet that didn’t stop it from performing either Jim Crow segregation (as in the meme) or genocide of minorities (as would be more accurate).
The ongoing genocide is a horrible tragedy, but it’s neither Auschwitz nor Warschau.
It’s not Auschwitz, but it definitely has strong parralels to Warsaw.
I think it would be more accurate to draw the line directly from the US genocide of Native American peoples to Israel’s genocide of Palestinians, but regardless, the comparison with Nazi Germany is not inherently incorrect. The way it would be incorrect is if the meme was accusing Israel of, specifically, imitating Nazi Germany’s uniquely industrialized style of genocide (which may make good rhetoric, but fails as a serious comparison) or some manner of comparison of the political structures of the states (which, other than sharing ethnonationalist values, are vastly different), neither of which it is doing.
Israel’s policies take more from Nazi German occupational practices than Nazi German domestic race laws (which are what drew from the ‘Jim Crow’ laws of the US South).
Dismantling all relevant institutions and starving the occupied population en masse, proclaiming how ‘humane’ your treatment is to the international community whilst laughing at the deaths of ‘subhumans’ in domestic propaganda, and engaging in intermittent ‘bandit hunting’ campaigns that target almost exclusively civilians, with the end goal of achieving a reduced enough population for colonist ‘lebensraum’.
It would probably be more accurate to connect late 19th century US policy towards Native Americans with this chain, rather than Jim Crow.
More the level of privilege it would take to benefit from ignoring the news.
Those of us without privilege can ignore the news initially, but it will bite us ever-harder when the effects start hitting.
Of course, some people, including some very unprivileged people, use this as a sign to become more isolated from information, in the hopes that not knowing about it means next time it won’t effect them.
… this usually has cascading negative consequences.
On one hand, I would point out that many ‘easy’ fixes are not actually that easy when you consider the fucked state of our government and that the Dems are inherently a ‘big-tent’ party.
On the other hand, you’re completely correct that the Dem mainstream refuses (without being pressed) to consider anything that shakes the precious status quo because it would upset their donors, and they refuse to consider that the system might be broken and in need of fixing (though that latter point, admittedly, they share with our blinkered fucking electorate).
I would point out more broadly that though money is a MASSIVE influence in US politics, ultimately, votes are the motivator for most Dem politicians. Politicians are generally in the position because they like power, and they cling to power by re-election. If the narrative of the electorate changes, and voting patterns with it, especially primary voting patterns, Dem politicians will fall over themselves to change their stated positions. If by the next primary cycle, the Dem electorate had shifted to be a bunch of far-left radicals who demanded repeated-if-futile attempts to reform the system even with a minority in the legislature, and massacred incumbents accordingly, even ghouls like Pelosi would suddenly become champions of ‘the people’.
The mistake many people on here make is thinking that politicians in a bourgeois democracy are loyal to capital in some nebulous way, and aiming for wealth. By and large, they are not (though there are certainly exceptions, both ideological and personal). By and large, they are loyal to themselves, and aiming for power. Capital and wealth are only means to that end. As long as the support of capital buys them votes, and wealth buys them influence, they will pursue both - when capital stops guaranteeing a re-election from an electorate with the approximate memory of goldfish, mainstream politicians will change their allegiances accordingly.
HOW the fuck we get there, I have no fucking clue. But it is good to remain clear-sighted on the nature of the enemy.
The fact you only care about minorities here and not those outside America just shows how little you actually care about them. If you actually valued their lives, you’d value ALL of their lives and not just the American ones.
How many minorities abroad have been saved by helping fascists murder minorities here, bootlicker?
None saved? MORE killed?
Huh. Looks like you just enjoy murdering minorities for the sake of feeling smug, just like the bootlickers who call themselves right-wing.
Minorities are murdered by the shiploads no matter who is in charge. It’s just that some can hide it better and might focus more on murdering them overseas (see everything with Israel).
Jesus fucking Christ.
The privilege - and lack of introspection - to be able to say shit like that is absurd.
Don’t worry, Trump will order it scrubbed of all references to him, and no one will do anything about it because our system has been utterly broken by a toddler in an octogenarian skinsuit, a crowd of oligarchs, and a good 30% of the country who have proven themselves to be rancid bootlickers.
As if we needed any more proof that Trump just mimics the last person who flattered him with no sense of object or relationship permanence.
Good on Mamdani for playing the stupid fuck, though.
