Defeatism : an attitude of accepting, expecting, or being resigned to defeat
How is that helpful. The dictionary definition has nothing regarding pushing back

Defeatism is not helpful. Oppose what’s happening, don’t appease the executive. Allow there to be some way to betterment before all you can do is say ‘there’s no hope’
Honestly the post should say ‘history classes’. Classes tend to cover a broad scope as do the textbooks they assign. I certainly have read larger picture nonfiction work, but I think it’s more common for books to cover more specific periods of time.
Rarely does history dwell on the individual, especially when you cover hundreds of years in a class. I will say that I was taught about the leading factors of WW2 far more than WW1. A lot of it dwelt on a people suffering from the weight of reparations stacked upon the general weight of losing a war. I don’t say this to justify either timeframes decline to fascism, but to draw a parallel.
In my opinion and personal experience the general population of the US has so much less power (purchasing and otherwise) and they’re mad. They want to be mad at something tangible and fascist direct it toward minorities.
Sounds like transubstantiation to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, I didn’t want to get too deep in the weeds, but it’s so much more complex thank ‘drink the kool-aid’. I’ve listened to the 40+ minute tape as well, and linked a well written Britannica article detailing these points as well as some important cultural impacts in my original comment.
A large portion of his ‘congregation’ were Black Americans who were beaten down by the status quo at the time. I can’t blame them for grasping at hope that his de-segregated ‘church’ valued them for the people they were. As you said there were drills for this sort of thing before, so it’s impossible to say if the ones who initially volunteered for it were truly aware of what they were doing.
I’m personally not a ‘Behind the Bastards’ person. I very much enjoy historical dark comedy; just not as a teacher. I’m more of a fan of ‘referential’ humour in that regard. If I’m trying to learn something I want it as honest and close to the source as possible.

I don’t disagree that regardless of a physical burial site his cult will have their ‘pilgrimage’ sites. I do want to just point out that current sentiment is not everyone in Jonestown (not Jamestown) voluntarily drank the Flavor Aid. The whole story is harrowing, even more so when you put it into the context of the time period it took place in.
I responded to who you agreed with. I won’t go into it further. Just giving you a ping, and hope that you can see where I was coming from. Didn’t realise asking for a tag was such a big deal, so honestly just gonna block this community.
This is a space for RPG memes, and the meme is covering a topic regarding oversexualized female characters discussing being raped by monsters with a dildo on the table. I’m not perturbed by downvotes, but I noticed them for just asking for it to be tagged as NSFW. I’ve had some rough experiences trying to play tabletop games as a woman and would ideally not have to be reminded of poor behaviour in a space that’s supposed to be lighthearted.
I don’t expect everything to be made for me, that’s why I block a lot of ‘lewd’ content and a blanket NSFW block. I went through Barrens and CoD chat as a young woman so I know what you mean by ‘vastly better place’.
Try and have some empathy for why someone might not want to see this content.
Tagging this as NSFW would have been appreciated. I filter those things out for a reason

Watters is a creep
Watters, 43, shared the memory about his wife Emma DiGiovine, 29, during an episode of his panel series The Five last week, where he told his colleagues that he had relied on the tactic to get close to his then-colleague.
“When I was trying to get Emma to date me, first thing I did, uh, I let the air out of her tyres,” Watters claimed. “She couldn’t go anywhere, she needed a lift. I said: ‘Hey, you need a lift?’ She hopped right in the car.”
I’ve bought the series multiple times over 🫠 the dvds are great though for the commentary. There are some actor commentaries and some from JMS. Also the outtakes for each season are wonderful; I still reference them to this day haha
I rewatch fairly often 😅 especially when I’m indoctrinating someone close to me to the series haha. I was born when it premiered and watched it when young. I live vicariously through newcomers reactions to plot reveals.
It’s one of those shows that gets better and better upon rewatching as there are references to upcoming events if you know what to look for.
Fun fact you might already know! Lorien’s actor did a lot of work on B5 as aliens. His human appearance was Sebastian (remembered only as Jack)
It remains topical to this day. Appeasement and other historical references just keep repeating ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
“The Babylon project was our last, best hope for peace. It failed. bum bum bah In the year of the Shadow War it became something greater; our last best hope for victory.”
Edit; I’m actually doing a rewatch now and nearing the end of Season 4. I already miss Season 3. Although nothing beats “Drazi: Captain, we’re sorry we thought you were dead. Sheridan: I was, I’m better now.”
Cats and Star Trek. I will continue the fight for Babylon 5 tho

I grew up behind the Orange Curtain and now live in the Inland Empire. Mercy kill please?

Fucking Redding. I’m not even surprised. SoCal and NorCal are basically two different states.
‘part’ is the keyword there. OP (and I) would prefer the whole parcel
