I mean probably, not like I read it. Just looked it up and he indeed published something with “war on warriors” in the title. I was just surprised he would stop to peddle his book in the middle of a 45 minute fascist screed.

Instead it’s a couple little boys peacocking around bragging about how masculine they are to a captive audience.

Uhm, well there was a lot of that stuff, but Hegseth spoke for like 45 minutes and inbetween the usual incoherent rambling and machismo, and the book plug [!], there were some actual important announcements thrown in. Internal investigations is to be gutted, records of wrongdoing will be expunged, “DEI” purges will continue, and a whole lot of “you can do whatever the fuck you want now, we will back you” messaging. This was a rallying cry to the fascists in the audience, and I fear there is a subset that will act on it.

Haven’t made it through the entirety of Trumps speech yet, but most of the first ~20 minutes have been his usual meandering.

Not familiar enough with this particular project to know, but a quick glance at the commit log shows some overlap in commit authors, so I guess there is at least some level of sharing happening, probably just not through merges.

But being familiar with this kind of project in general, the branches will probably never be fully merged even in the future, just doesn’t make much sense because they are server software targeting very different versions of a game client. There are also two other branches, but they “only” diverged by like one or two thousand commits so far.

Well acquisition of power through military means was a Roman tradition since Sullas march on Rome in 88 BCE though, so technically they have just as much of a claim as Charlemagne, the HRE, and the Tzars. A better one even since they actually conquered “new Rome” and its people and held it. What matters though is that they did claim the title of Caesar just as the other self-proclaimed successors of Rome did.

Well actually “don’t do anything illegal” seems to be the thing giving an easy win to cops and politicians here.

And you are free to believe otherwise. But sadly I don’t see legal protests having any effect on a government actively seeking to undermine the rule of law.

Insisting on the confines of legality when the opposing side has shed any pretence of legality months (arguably years) ago is… a stance to take. Just not a winning one.

Not sure if that’s true actually, the Nazis were supremely incompetent as well. It just doesn’t take that much competence to smash a delicate balance like the separation of powers. You basically need control of one the three branches of government and you are good to try, Trump controls two and this news is about him smashing the third.

Well I don’t know about that. Maybe if this current outrage gets enough people to engage in internal party politics the DNC can be reformed? I’m honestly not too knowledgeable about that area of US politics, but my understanding as a layperson was that there isn’t really anything (except for party-internal conflict obviously) preventing registered democrats from trying to reform or even replace the DNC.

But even if that is possible not sure if it would be fast enough. There are probably a host of different internal elections involved to gain the required influence, and the next national midterms elections are probably way beyond Trumps deadline for going completely mask off “I’m your dictator now”-fascist.

I’m gonna be real with you, I don’t know who or what that is and I deliberately chose to ignore the likely sarcasm, but feel free to enlighten me.

Like I agree it is a better message in the edit, but I fear a lot of people are not ready to hear that yet and still need to work through the original before coming around to this… Still stuck in denial and whatnot.

Not really, although I’m quite sure people have wrote about if you care to search. The “Fediverse” communities on many instances would be a place to ask. The underlying protocol is called ActivityPub, which would already give an insight into what is available to the broader network (which includes Mastodon and other services), but if you want to get down to it you can spin up a Lemmy instance and see what you get.

Votes specifically are even publicly visible on some Lemmy frontends, like Piefed and Mbin I think.

I’m just saying consider anything you post on Lemmy specifically or on the broader Fediverse in general part of the public record, for better or for worse.

As you seem to be American and inclined to research, here are a few keywords you may want to look up: Operational Security, Signal Intelligence, End-to-end-encryption. Be advised that up/downvotes as well as a lot of other metadata is essentially public on Lemmy, because it is available to every instance (you can host one yourself if you want to). Your government may be blind on four eyes right now, but there is still one remaining.

Also don’t get drawn in too deep into the reasons why any of these people do what they do. It’s interesting to the point of being too good to be true, I’ll admit that, but it is a distraction. Focus on organising yourself and the people around you. Good luck.
