  • I’ve read similar that it is per subpoena, but I haven’t found an article with a more detailed analysis yet.

Now technically in the article I linked Speaker Johnson says he’ll hold a vote to remove that clause, but even if he’s being genuine I’m guessing it won’t pass in the Senate or will be vetoed by Trump.

The whole this just kicking someone (the United States) while they’re down. Longest shutdown. SNAP benefits halted. ACA subsidies expired. Hemp outlawed. Senator payouts… And this current “victory” only lasts until the end of January. Just long enough for the wounds to start healing before we all get kicked down again.

  • Assuming he lives long enough it’ll probably open relatively quickly, bare bones, things like the kitchen won’t be large enough or even available, he’ll rent some “gold” tables and chairs and have “the best” opening ever.

Then it will sit incomplete until someone decides to fix it in a future administration. Hopefully they can just tear down and fix the interior, but probably not.

  • To add, the election Platner is running in has their primaries in June 2026, general in November 2026.

Platner has A LOT of work to do between now and then to prove what kind of person he is and what ideas he has, but he also has A LOT of time to do it.

I understand anyone’s hesitation in supporting him. It’s a reasonable view. Platner may never recover from this. Maybe he can. Platner is going to need to work hard to overcome this. Other candidates may be better.

  • The problem seems to be that consequences no longer matter. I say that to be a bit extreme, but it might hold to be true.

The NYC mayoral race includes Andrew Cuomo. He felt it nessisarry to resign based on allegations of sexual misconduct. Maybe it was worse than that, probably, but it further proves my point.

You can’t resign and then immediately run again. I guess from a strictly moral level you’re at least being honest this time, but you can’t just admit to things and then move on immediately.

For some reason you can just admit to a crime and then move on for free?

  • In this example it was an attack roll, and a critical hit as a result of the halfling luck trait, so it played out perfectly.

In the case where it were a skill check, you are correct that there are no crits for skill checks. However rolling a natural 20 is a rare event and as a DM you could choose to reward it. Conversely hitting delicate machines with a battle-axe is usually a mistake.

The machine working at half capacity is a reasonable reward and consequence.

  • Yes.

You create a magical restraint to hold a creature that you can see within range.

While imprisoned, the target doesn’t need to breathe, eat, or drink, and it doesn’t age.

Until the spell ends, the target is also affected by one of the following effects of your choice:

The secondary effects in the case of immunity to Unconscious just wouldn’t do much but the target is still under a magical restraint.

Now technically the magical restraint that holds the creature doesn’t mechanically cause any particular condition. So depending on the definition of “held”, this may or may not be a problem.

However it is worth noting that the spell also says the condition to end the spell must be something the DM agrees to AND is likely to happen in the next decade. So it won’t be a cakewalk to be suddenly immune to aging.
