  • All good reasons to stay away from the Hue/Wyse branded WiFi bulbs(nvm that their colors suck). Also why those are less than half the price of the ones that require a hub. When the internet goes out, I can still control my hub-connected Hue bulbs, and some(but not all) of the various Bluetooth bulbs I own.

Original Hue bulbs are good shit, the best softwhite, yellows, and/or orange color-tones you can get on the market, but everything else is hit-and-miss IME.

If you like to read/study, its original Hue or Dumb bulbs. The rest is usually party/mood lighting at best, and the best deals for that are on the standalone stuff that comes with crappy remotes.

  • Its not “the Cloud” if its your own systems from top-to-bottom … More like Remote Play? … Seems Sony, Microsoft, and Valve all use that terminology for Streaming Gameplay from their consoles to another device.

Streaming to another location than where your Server is setup is tricky, mostly due to latency and establishing a connection that doesn’t get throttled(or compromised) by the ISPs involved. Personally, when I tried to get into it, about 10 years ago, I didn’t have the budget for a GPU that could be persuaded to support it at all.

Today, I’m more likely to keep such a server in my vehicle(on Battery/Solar), so its always just a local connection away, if I were to bother with the budget and hassle involved*. Around the house, I’ll just slap a new desktop together where I want to play games, or game on my laptop, and call it done.

*Ideally, I could build this for less than my good laptop would cost to replace, and use something much closer to outright disposable to game outside of my car. In practice, I just bring my good laptop with me everywhere, risk be damned.

  • Don’t ask me? I’ll ftp before I’ll WebUI like so, but for online viewing, I’ll take streaming please. My kids, wife, and mother-in-law find that a million times more convenient.

Meanwhile, there’s a dude in these comments hating on the notion that Jellyfin’s app will download the Raw file for offline viewing purposes. Please, do not ask me to pretend to care what is going on in that person’s head. In my world, using VLC to play my files is a perk. Gimme that yummy 2x or slow-mo as I see fit, please.
