  • I however disagree with the notion that Nazis wouldn’t be Nazis if opposition “took the high road” and debated the Nazis instead of responding to their violence in kind. The Nazis are gonna do Nazi shit regardless, and their justifications will always be bullshit.

Do you truly think the Nazis wouldn’t have imposed martial law if it weren’t for that assassination?

Again, I don’t see how you get there? I did not say anything like that? I did not say to take the high road, I did not say that the fascists would leave you alone? I said that fascists disproportionately will escalate violence in reaction, I did not qualify that one way or the other.

I am just reminding, that there will be a price to pay, and that it will be expensive and that it is not fun or glorious to be in that position.

Do you truly think the Nazis wouldn’t have imposed martial law if it weren’t for that assassination?

Well, I this specific case they actually didn’t… Martial law was declared from May 27th 1942 (the day of the assassination) until July 3rd 1942. So 37 days after the assassination the martial law over Czech was lifted again so there is a pretty clear connection as retribution to the assassination.

  • Don’t get me wrong, I relish in the thought that Heydrich died like a dog and I’d say it was the right thing to do

    Is what I said.

I’d say it was the right thing to do

I don’t know how you got from that to your comment.

All I was saying is that the fascist will retribute cruel, unreasonably and disproportionately.

Maybe there’s some phrase I misused, English is not my mother tongue, but I still feel that your facetious comment misses my point completely.

Careful what you wish for. When Reinhard Heydrich was killed in an attack by Czech resistance fighters the Nazis imposed martial law over the whole country for two months, arrested 3000 people, executed 1300. Additionally they burnt two villages to the ground, executed the entire male population, all women went to concentration camps and all but 9 children in those villages where murdered.

Don’t get me wrong, I relish in the thought that Heydrich died like a dog and I’d say it was the right thing to do, just as I will absolutely not shed a tear for that shit stain Kirk, but the price can be very very high and those lunatics will retribute, cruel and senseless.

edit: holy cow forgot the most essential word in my comment, I will not shed a tear for that shit stain Kirk. I will not!

  • I don’t know it just seems too on the nose, the ancient “expand the list” joke framework, picking a word that would become unintelligible when properly censored, then using the lazy censoring, censoring the first ass but leaving the second one untouched.

I am honestly not sure if it’s a joke or not, but it feels like one.

Edit: maybe I just wanted it to be a meta joke, because the “expand the list” thing has run its course for me by now. Seeing it with the censoring removed makes it less funny for me, like a minions meme or something

  • He’s also dumb. There is a deposition of him in a misidentified shooter defamation case against him and he is not very capable of following logical conclusions. Like super simple a to b to c stuff needs several clarifications from the plaintiffs lawyer and even then he still doesn’t quite get the concept.

  • How does that not apply in the same way that US is seeking here against China with manufacturing?

Why is it OK for Europe to protect their jobs but NOT OK for US to protect their jobs? What makes Europe so special?

I am not informed enough to speak on that, I didn’t imply anything in my comment that would suggest I think that one way or the other.

The only thing I can say about that is, that with those tariffs the US is violating free trade agreements that were negotiated by the Trump administration themselves during his last presidency specifically with Canada and Mexico.

  • That’s one point, but it’s also a competitive measure. Australia has conditions that make them more competitive in things like dairy farming, wide empty and cheap land for example, that can sustain way bigger herds than most European farms, which allows them to sell the produce cheaper and still have a margin. Without some sort of regulatory measures this would ruin smaller dairy farmers in europe, because they have little to no way to compete with those prices.

Also those tariffs are a bargaining chip in the EU-AUS free trade negotiations at the moment.

Tariffs can be a very good tool to regulate prices or protect certain sectors that can’t compete the same way as outside powers in a global economy. BUT there has to be a fine strategy to it, otherwise you’re just kicking of trade wars.

  • In my mind it was because children are expensive, so high birthrates - less “free” income, means higher reliance on public services like transportation. At least here in Germany highest birthrates are usually low income, low education, often immigrant areas that would profit greatly from having a broader support from the public.

Can you seriously not see how this can be abused by Trump administration after news like ordering to retract the word “gender” from medical articles published by CDC:

    https://insidemedicine.substack.com/p/breaking-news-cdc-orders-mass-retraction

Well now I obviously do, but like I mentioned, I am from Germany, I try to keep up with rapid-fire bullshit machine that is governing the US right now, but unfortunately we are also in a dire situation here right now. And I wouldn’t expect the whole world to automatically understand all the details of what is happening in our government right now, for example how terrifying and dangerous the last three days were for our democracy. I am happy to answer that for anyone asking genuinely btw. Hence why I was happy someone asked the questions that I had in mind while reading the article.

  • First of all - thank you for taking the time!

I totally understand, we’re all on the edge right now, my antennas are also sensitive to that kind of “just asking questions” disingenuous bullshit. But this didn’t feel like it to me, it felt like a genuine question, because I had the same thoughts before someone explained it.

I am from Europe, I suppose OP is also from a non-US country and at least to me it wasn’t quite clear that the group with highest birthrates are white evangelical Christians for example, like now I know and it makes sense, but without that context it’s hard to understand.

For example here in Germany, if I would read about our DOT making the same policy, I would think (without looking too much into actual data) - yeah okay, highest birthrates here are usually low income, low education, often immigrant families who are very reliant on public transportation to manage their day-to-day life - totally makes sense to support those areas with a higher budget.
